The 2023–24 Azerbaijan Premier League is the 32nd season of the Azerbaijan Premier League, the highest tier football league of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan Premier League
The Azerbaijan Premier League ( az, Azərbaycan Premyer Liqası) is a professional league for men's association football clubs. At the top of the Azerbaijan football league system, it is the country's primary football competition. It is contested by 10 clubs. Seasons run from August to May, with teams playing 36 matches each (playing each team in the league four times, twice at home and twice away). The Premier League champion secures the right to play in UEFA Champions League first qualifying round. The runner up and the 3rd place winner secure right to play in UEFA Europa Conference League starting in second qualifying round. Since 1992, a total of 8 clubs have been crowned champions of the Azerbaijani football system. The Azerbaijan Premier League was first organized in 2007 and succeeded the Top Division ( az, Yüksək Liqa), which existed from 1992 to 2007. Sabail FK ( az, Səbail Futbol Klubu, ) is an Azerbaijani football club based in Baku. The club participates in the Azerbaijan Premier League. History The club was established in 2016 and immediately joined the Azerbaijan First Division. After finishing their first season in the Azerbaijan Premier League in 7th position, Samir Aliyev left the role as manager by mutual consent on 22 May 2018. Absheron District
Absheron District () is one of the 66 districts of Azerbaijan. It is located in the east of the country and belongs to the Absheron-Khizi Economic Region. The district borders the districts of Khizi, Gobustan, Baku, Hajigabul, Salyan, and the city of Sumgait. Its capital and largest city is Khyrdalan. As of 2020, the district had a population of 214,100. Although the district shares the same name as the Absheron Peninsula, the area covered by the district is not conterminous, being further west and mostly inland. Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium
The Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium ( az, Tofiq Bəhramov adına Respublika Stadionu) is a multi-purpose stadium in Baku, Azerbaijan. It is currently used mostly for football matches. It served as the home ground for the Azerbaijan national football team until they moved to the Baku Olympic Stadium. It holds 31,200 seats making it the second largest stadium in the country. The stadium is also used by the Azerbaijan Premier League clubs in the final rounds of European competitions. History The Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium was built in 1951. Its construction started before World War II in 1939, but was suspended. When its construction resumed, it was finished by German prisoners of war. Aghdam
Aghdam ( az, Ağdam) is a ghost town and the nominal capital of the Aghdam District of Azerbaijan. Founded in the 18th century, it was granted city status in 1828 and grew considerably during the Soviet period. Aghdam lies from Stepanakert at the eastern foot of the Karabakh Range, on the outskirts of the Karabakh plain. Before the First Nagorno-Karabakh War, butter, wine and brandy, machine, and silk factories, an airport and two railway stations functioned there. By 1989, Aghdam had 28,031 inhabitants. As Azerbaijani forces withdrew from Karabakh following political turmoil in the country during the war, Armenian forces captured Aghdam in July 1993. Bakcell Arena
Eighth Kilometer District Stadium, ( az, 8-ci Kilometr Qəsəbə Stadionu) is a soccer-specific stadium located in Nizami raion, Baku, Azerbaijan. It was opened in 2012 and has a capacity of 11,000 spectators. In 2013 it was renamed to Bakcell Arena. Bakcell Arena is serving as the home ground of the Azerbaijan Premier League club Neftchi PFK. Dalga Arena ( az, Dalğa Arena) is a multi-use stadium in Mardakan settlement of Baku, Azerbaijan. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium holds 6,500 people and opened by Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini on 6 June 2011. The stadium was one of venues during 2012 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.
