Malta ( , , ), officially the Republic of Malta ( mt, Repubblika ta' Malta ), is an island country in the Mediterranean Sea. It consists of an archipelago, between Italy and Libya, and is often considered a part of Southern Europe. It lies south of Sicily (Italy), east of Tunisia, and north of Libya. Paul Cardona
Pawl Cardona (22 January 1953 – 21 June 2023) was a Maltese Roman Catholic clergyman who served as the Episcopal vicar for the Clergy for the Diocese of Gozo. Prior to this he was the Archpriest of the Basilica of St George in Victoria, Gozo from 2007 to 2016. Early years Paul Cardona was born on 22 January 1953 in Sannat, Gozo, Malta to Luigi Cardona and Rosina Sciberras. He attended the primary school of Sannat and the secondary school in Victoria, Gozo. He went on to enter the major Seminary of the Sacred Heart in Victoria, Gozo to study Philosophy in 1971 and Theology in 1973. He was ordained priest by Bishop Nikol Joseph Cauchi on 18 June 1977 in the Cathedral of the Assumption in Victoria. Time in Italy In September 1977 Cardona left for Italy where he started his ministry in the Diocese of Tivoli. Anne Agius Ferrante
Anne Agius Ferrante (20 August 1925 – 5 April 2023) was a Maltese politician who served in the Parliament of Malta from 1980 until 1981 as a member of the Nationalist Party. Biography Ferrante was born in Mdina on 20 August 1925, the daughter of Sir Philip Pullicino, who served as attorney general of Malta. Between 1957 and 1960, she served as the Commissioner of the Island of Malta for the Girl Guides Association. In 1980, following the death of George Borg Olivier, Ferrante was elected to the House of Representatives via by-election, making her the first female Nationalist Party member to be nationally elected. She continued to hold her seat until the next election was held in 1981. Ferrante lost her husband at an early age, but devoted herself to raising her children Susan Zammit Tabona and Timothy. Silvio Parnis (19 October 1965 – 3 January 2023) was a Maltese politician of the Labour Party. Parnis served in the Parliament of Malta from 1998 to 2022. Biography Parnis was born in Paola to Michael and Doris Caruana. He grew up there. He attended Paola Primary School and his secondary education at St. Elias College in Santa Venera. In 2007 he married Dorianne née Cauchi, with whom he had one son, Jacob. Parnis worked as a health supervisor and as an assistant social worker to elderly residents at the St. Vincent De Paul Residence. Robert Abela (born 7 December 1977) is a Maltese lawyer and politician who has served as prime minister of Malta and leader of Labour Party since 2020. The son of former President George Abela, he was elected to Parliament in 2017. Abela was sworn in as prime minister following the resignation of Joseph Muscat on 13 January 2020.
