2023 Cuban Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections are scheduled to be held in Cuba on 23 March 2023 to elect members of the National Assembly of People's Power. They will be the first elections since 1976 in which neither Fidel nor Raúl Castro are involved. Miguel Díaz-Canel succeeded Raúl Castro, brother of Fidel Castro, as the First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba on 19 April 2021, marking the end of the Castro era in Cuba. National Assembly Of People's Power
The National Assembly of People's Power ( es, Asamblea Nacional del Poder Popular) is the unicameral parliament of the Republic of Cuba. It is currently composed of 605 representatives who are elected from multi-member electoral districts for a term of five years. The current President of the Assembly is Esteban Lazo Hernández. The Assembly only meets twice a year, with the 31-member Council of State exercising legislative power throughout the rest of the year. The most recent elections were held on 11 March 2018. After the 2023 elections, the number of representatives will decrease to 474. Voters can select individual candidates on their ballot, select every candidate, or leave every question blank, with no option to vote against candidates. During the 2013 elections, around 80% of voters selected every candidate for the Assembly on their ballot, while 4.6% submit a blank ballot; no candidate for the Assembly has ever lost an election in Cuban history. An indirect presidential election was held in Cuba on 19 April 2023. The election took place following the election to the National Assembly of People's Power on 26 March 2023. The incumbent president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, was eligible for re-election and his candidacy was supported with 459 votes out of 460 valid votes. Two deputies voted blank. The president of Cuba ( es, Presidente de Cuba), officially the president of the Republic of Cuba ( es, Presidente de la República de Cuba), is the head of state of Cuba. The office in its current form was established under the Constitution of 2019. The President is the second-highest office in Cuba and the highest state office. Arnie Coro
Arnaldo Coro Antích (2 July 1942 – 8 January 2023) was a Cuban radio host, academic and popular amateur radio operator. He was a cofounder of Radio Havana and hosted the English language Radio Habana show ''DXers Unlimited'' which broadcasts twice a week. He was also a professor of broadcasting at the University of Havana. His amateur radio call sign was CO2KK. In Cuba, Coro is considered "the guru of ham radio operators" and is credited with increasing interest in Cuban amateur radio operation and garnered many fans in the United States. Due to the difficulty in acquiring radio equipment, Coro assembled his radio equipment from pieces of old radios, Soviet-era television sets and fax machines. Radio Havana Cuba ( es, Radio Habana Cuba, RHC) is the official government-run international broadcasting station of Cuba. It can be heard in many parts of the world including the United States on shortwave frequencies. Juana de la Caridad "Juanita" Castro Ruz (born 6 May 1933) is a Cuban activist as well as the sister of Fidel and Raúl, both former presidents of Cuba, and Ramón, key figure of the Cuban Revolution. After collaborating with the Central Intelligence Agency in Cuba, she has lived in the United States since 1964.
