2023 World Women's Curling Championship
The 2023 World Women's Curling Championship (branded as 2023 LGT World Women's Curling Championship for sponsorship reasons) was held from March 18 to 26 at the Göransson Arena in Sandviken, Sweden. The format for the Championship featured a thirteen team round robin. The top six teams qualified for the playoff round where the top two teams received a bye while the remaining four played the first round. Qualification Thirteen curling federations qualified to participate in the 2023 World Women's Curling Championship. This was the first year to qualify teams using the new 2022 Pan Continental Curling Championships, with New Zealand winning entry into the World Women's Championship for the first time, represented by a team skipped by Jessica Smith. Sandviken
Sandviken is a locality and the seat of Sandviken Municipality in Gävleborg County, Sweden with 39,234 inhabitants in 2019. Gimli, Manitoba
Gimli is an unincorporated community in the Rural Municipality of Gimli on the west side of Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada. The community's first European settlers were Icelanders who were part of the New Iceland settlement in Manitoba. The community maintains a strong connection to Iceland and Icelandic culture today, including the annual Icelandic Festival. Denise Dupont
Denise Kanstrup Dupont (born 24 May 1984) is a Danish curler. She throws third rocks for the Danish national team, skipped by Angelina Jensen. After several years of limited success in the Junior ranks, Dupont joined Dorthe Holm's team and was a member of the silver medal-winning European Curling Championships team in 2002. (Throwing second rocks). The following year, the team won a bronze medal. Her success at the European Championships never translated to Junior success or World Championship success at the time. In 2004, she was promoted to the third position, and the team won another bronze at the European Championships in 2005. Mathilde Halse
Mathilde Emma Halse (born 2 May 1999) is a Danish curler from Gentofte. She competed in the 2018 Winter Olympics and 2022 Winter Olympics. She currently plays third on the Danish National Women's Curling Team skipped by Madeleine Dupont. Career She started curling in 2014. Before that she was a figure skater. Halse became the skip of the Danish National Junior Women's Curling Team in 2019, where she skipped the team at the 2019 World Junior-B Curling Championships (January). They lost in the quarterfinals and would not qualify for the World Juniors. Later that year, she became the skip of the National Women's Team and represented Denmark at the 2019 European Curling Championships, where they went 2–7. Madeleine Kanstrup Dupont (born 26 May 1987 in Glostrup, Denmark) is a Danish curler from Copenhagen. She won the Frances Brodie Award in 2004. She currently skips her own team with teammates Mathilde Halse, Denise Dupont (Madeleine's sister), and My Larsen. Dupont has competed in three Olympic Games and 13 World Championships, winning medals at the 2007 World Women's Curling Championship (silver) and the 2009 World Women's Curling Championship (bronze). Briane Harris (born March 11, 1992 as Briane Meilleur) is a Canadian curler from Petersfield, Manitoba. She currently plays lead on Team Kerri Einarson from Gimli, Manitoba. Currently, the Einarson team are the three-time reigning Scotties Tournament of Hearts champions, winning the title in , and .
