2023 Welsh Open (snooker)
The 2023 Welsh Open (officially the 2023 BetVictor Welsh Open) was a professional snooker tournament that took place from 13 to 19 February 2023 at Venue Cymru in Llandudno, Wales, marking the first time since the event's inception in 1992 that it was staged elsewhere than Newport or Cardiff. Qualifiers took place from 11 to 13 January 2023 at the Metrodome in Barnsley, although matches involving the top 16 players in the world rankings, as well as matches involving two Welsh wild-card entrants, were held over and played at the final venue. Organised by the World Snooker Tour and sponsored by online betting company BetVictor, the tournament was broadcast by BBC Cymru Wales and the BBC Red Button domestically, by Eurosport in Europe, and by multiple other broadcasters internationally. BetVictor is an online gambling company headquartered in Gibraltar. Founded in 1946, it offers products such as sports betting and online casino. The company is currently owned by Michael Tabor. History The company was founded by William Chandler (bookmaker), William Chandler who owned Walthamstow Stadium, a greyhound racing track in the London Borough of Waltham Forest in East London, which he opened in 1931. Daniel Wells (born 31 July 1988) is a Welsh former professional snooker player from Neath. He has twice come through Qualifying School to play on the professional snooker tour. Career Early career He was awarded the inaugural Paul Hunter Scholarship. This gave him the chance to practise in the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield, alongside professional players, such as Peter Ebdon and Ding Junhui. Joe Perry (born 13 August 1974) is an English professional snooker player from Wisbech, Cambridgeshire. European Series
The BetVictor European Series is a snooker tournament series established in 2019. It was expanded from four tournaments in the 2019–20 season to six tournaments in the 2020–21 season and then to eight tournaments in the 2021–22 season and 2022–23 season. The player who wins the most cumulative prize money in European Series events each season receives a bonus prize of £150,000. The Home Nations Series is a snooker tournament series in the four home nations of the United Kingdom. It began in the 2016–17 snooker season, combining two existing tournaments, the Scottish Open and Welsh Open, with two newly created tournaments, the English Open and Northern Ireland Open.
