2023 U.S. Figure Skating Championships
The 2023 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships were held January 23–29, 2023, at the SAP Center in San Jose, California. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, women's singles, pair skating, and ice dance at the senior and junior levels. The results were part of the U.S. selection criteria for the 2023 World Championships, 2023 World Junior Championships, the 2023 Four Continents Championship, and the 2023 World Team Trophy. San Jose was originally scheduled to host the 2021 event, but it was relocated to Las Vegas. San Jose was then awarded the 2023 Championships instead. It was the fourth time the city hosted the event. Qualifying Skaters qualify for Nationals by competing in the National Qualifying Series, a series of competitions that allow skaters to qualify for the Sectionals, U.S. Pairs Final and U.S. Ice Dance Final in November. Pair skating is a figure skating discipline defined by the International Skating Union (ISU) as "the skating of two persons in unison who perform their movements in such harmony with each other as to give the impression of genuine Pair Skating as compared with independent Single Skating".S&P/ID 2021, p. 109 The ISU also states that a pairs team consists of "one Woman and one Man". Pair skating, along with men's and women's single skating, has been an Olympic discipline since figure skating, the oldest Winter Olympic sport, was introduced at the 1908 Summer Olympics in London. Ian Somerville (born September 1, 2000) is an American ice dancer. With his skating partner, Emily Bratti, he is the 2024 U.S. national bronze medalist and competed in the final segment at the 2022 Four Continents Championships. With his former skating partner, Katarina DelCamp, he is the 2021 U.S. junior national bronze medalist. Emily Bratti (born June 11, 2002) is an American ice dancer. With her skating partner, Ian Somerville, she is the 2024 U.S. national bronze medalist and competed in the final segment at the 2022 Four Continents Championships. Bratti previously represented France internationally with her former skating partner, Mathieu Couyras. Daniel Tioumentsev (born March 14, 2002) is an American pair skater. With former skating partner, Sophia Baram, he is the 2023 World Junior champion, 2022–23 Junior Grand Prix Final silver medalist, the 2022 JGP Czech Republic champion, the 2022 JGP Poland II bronze medalist, and the 2022 U.S. junior national champion. Personal life Tioumentsev was born on March 14, 2002, in El Paso, Texas, to parents Andrei, an electrical engineer, and Anna, a figure skating coach. He has a brother, Dimitri. 2023 ISU World Team Trophy In Figure Skating
The 2023 ISU World Team Trophy is an international figure skating competition that was held from April 13–16, 2023 in Tokyo, Japan. The top six International Skating Union members were invited to compete in a team format with points awarded based on skaters' placement. Participating countries selected two men's single skaters, two women' single skaters, one pair, and one ice dance entry for their team. Scoring Skaters competed in both the short program/rhythm dance and the free skating/free dance segments for their team. Each segment was scored separately. 2023 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships
The 2023 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships took place at the Broadmoor World Arena from February 7–12, 2023, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in the United States. Medals were awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, women's singles, pairs, and ice dance. Nations from non-European countries could send 3 entries at most for every discipline. Qualification Age and minimum TES requirements The competition was open to skaters from all non-European member nations of the International Skating Union. The corresponding competition for European skaters was the 2023 European Championships.
