2023 Special Olympics World Summer Games
The 2023 Special Olympics World Summer Games, auch Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023 (german: Special Olympics Weltspiele 2023), will be the 16th Special Olympics, being held in Berlin, Germany. It will mark the first time that Germany has hosted the Special Olympics World Games. The Special Olympics will last eight days, starting from 17 June to 25 June 2023. There will be about 7,000 athletes and Unified partners from approximately 170 countries to compete in 24 sports, with 3,000 coaches and 20,000 volunteers. Host selection The bid process opened in November 2017. Germany was the only country that was interested of hosting the games after previously withdrawn their 2019 bid. Berlin, Germany was selected as the host city on 13 November 2018 at the Global Athlete Congress in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark
The Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark is a multi-purpose sports complex located in the western part of the locality of Prenzlauer Berg in the borough of Pankow in Berlin. The sports complex covers an area of approximately 22 hectares and comprises several facilities. The main building is the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Stadion. The stadium is the third-largest stadium in Berlin, after the Olympiastadion and the Stadion An der Alten Försterei, with a capacity of approximately 20,000 seats, of which 15,000 are covered. Currently, the main tenants are FC Viktoria 1889 Berlin and Berlin Thunder. Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark was the venue for the 2018 World Para Athletics European Championships. Sky Deutschland GmbH, branded as Sky, is a German media company that operates a direct broadcast satellite Pay TV platform in Germany, Austria and Switzerland (through Sky Switzerland). Sportforum Hohenschönhausen is a multi-purpose sports complex in the locality of Alt-Hohenschönhausen of the borough of Lichtenberg in Berlin. The Sportforum was named Dynamo-Sportforum during the East German era. Sportforum Hohenschönhausen covers an area between 45 and 50 hectares, and comprises 35 sports facilities, including three ice rinks, two athletics halls, a football stadium, as well as eight other halls and open spaces for various sports. Max-Schmeling-Halle
Max-Schmeling-Halle is a multi-purpose arena, in Berlin, Germany, named after the famous German boxer Max Schmeling. Apart from Mercedes-Benz Arena and the Velodrom, it's one of Berlin's biggest indoor sports arenas and holds from 8,861 people, up to 12,000 people. The opening ceremony took place on 14 December 1996 in the presence of Max Schmeling. Poststadion
The Poststadion is a multi-use stadium in the locality of Moabit of the borough of Mitte in Berlin, Germany. The stadium was built in 1929 for the sports club of the German Reichspost at the site of a former Prussian Uhlan parade ground. It is adjacent to the Fritz Schloß Park. The stadium is a designated landmark since 1990. The facility fell into disrepair during the 1980s and several attempts to renovate the stadium failed in the following decades. The first renovations was carried out in 2003. Its original architecture has been conserved in the original structures of the main entrance in the Lehrter Strasse, with its rows of ticket booths lining the entrance.
