2023 Prince Edward Island General Election
The 67th Prince Edward Island general election is tentatively scheduled for 2 October 2023, as a result of the provincial fixed election-date legislation calling for a general election to be held prior to the first Monday of October in the fourth calendar year subsequent to the previous general election. The election may be held before the scheduled date if the Legislature is dissolved earlier by the province's lieutenant governor at the recommendation of the Premier of Prince Edward Island for a snap election. The Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island (french: Assemblée législative de l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard) is the sole chamber of the General Assembly of Prince Edward Island. 2021 Canadian Federal Election
The 2021 Canadian federal election was held on September 20, 2021, to elect members of the House of Commons to the 44th Canadian Parliament. The writs of election were issued by Governor General Mary Simon on August 15, 2021, when Prime Minister Justin Trudeau requested the dissolution of parliament for a snap election. Trudeau won a third term as prime minister, his second minority government. Though the Liberals were hoping to win a majority government to govern alone, the results were mostly unchanged from the 2019 Canadian federal election. Heath MacDonald (born 9 May 1966) is a Canadian politician, who is the Member of Parliament for Malpeque. A majority government is a government by one or more governing parties that hold an absolute majority of seats in a legislature. This is as opposed to a minority government, where the largest party in a legislature only has a plurality of seats. A government majority determines the balance of power. A majority government is usually assured of having its legislation passed and rarely if ever, has to fear being defeated in parliament, a state is also known as a working majority. In contrast, a minority government must constantly bargain for support from other parties in order to pass legislation and avoid being defeated on motions of no confidence. Joe Byrne (Canadian Politician)
Joe Byrne (born December 26, 1961) served as leader of the New Democratic Party of Prince Edward Island from 2018 to 2020. He became leader on April 7, 2018, after defeating two other candidates on the first ballot of the NDP leadership convention.
