2023 Polaris Music Prize
The 2023 edition of the Canadian Polaris Music Prize was presented on September 19, 2023. The winner was electronic musician Debby Friday for her album ''Good Luck''. The longlist was announced on June 13, and the shortlist was released July 13. Debby Friday
Debby Friday is an electronic musician based in Toronto. Her debut album, '' Good Luck'', released on Sub Pop in 2023, won the Polaris Music Prize. Early life Friday was born in Nigeria, and raised in Montreal. In 2018, she moved from Montreal to Vancouver. Career She released her first EP, ''Bitchpunk'', in 2018. In August 2019, her second EP, ''Death Drive'' was named Bandcamp's "Album of the Day" and received a 7.2 from ''Pitchfork''. In January 2023, she released the single "So Hard to Tell", ahead of debut album '' Good Luck'', which was released on March 24, on Sub Pop. Dan Mangan
Daniel Mangan (born April 28, 1983) is a Canadian musician. He has won two Juno awards and has toured extensively throughout North America, Europe and Australia, having released 5 studio LPs and numerous EPs and singles. He has scored for feature film, as well as television for Netflix and AMC. He is also a co-founder of Side Door, a marketplace platform connecting artists with alternative venue spaces for in-person & online shows. Career Early work In 2003, at 20 years old, Mangan completed his first set of recordings: an EP of simply recorded acoustic songs called ''All At Once''. Five hundred copies were pressed and sold or given away throughout the Vancouver area. Chiiild (pronounced "child") is a Canadian experimental soul artist, led by Yonatan "xSDTRK" Ayal signed to Avant Garden Records * and 4th & Broadway (Def Jam Recordings). Mariel Buckley
Mariel Buckley is a Canadian country music singer-songwriter based in Calgary, Alberta. She is the younger sister of singer T. Buckley. Biography Buckley was born in Calgary, Alberta. Buckley recorded an EP in 2012, and her first album, ''Motorhome'', in 2014. The album was produced by Derek Pulliam, and featured mainly acoustic music. Philippe Brach is the stage name of Philippe Bouchard (born July 22, 1989), a Canadian singer-songwriter from Saguenay, Quebec. Aquakultre
Aquakultre is a Canadian soul and R&B musical project from Halifax, Nova Scotia, whose core member is singer and rapper Lance Sampson.
