The 2023 Miami Open was a professional hardcourt tennis tournament played from March 21 to April 2, 2023, on the grounds of Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. It was the 38th edition of the men's and women's event and was classified as an ATP Masters 1000 event on the 2023 ATP Tour and a WTA 1000 event on the 2023 WTA Tour. Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Świątek were the defending champions in the men's and women's singles draw, respectively. However, Świątek withdrew before the tournament began due to injury. The ATP Masters 1000 tournaments (previously known as ATP Masters Series) is an annual series of nine tennis tournaments featuring the top-ranked players on the ATP Tour. The series' events have been held in Europe and North America since the inception of ATP Tour in 1990, and also in Asia since 2009. Iga Natalia Świątek (; born 31 May 2001) is a Polish professional tennis player. She is currently ranked world No. 1 by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA). Świątek is a three-time major singles champion, having won the French Open in 2020 and 2022 and the US Open in 2022. She is the first player representing Poland to win a major singles title. WTA Premier Tournaments was a category of tennis tournaments in the Women's Tennis Association tour, implemented from the reorganization of the schedule in 2009 until 2020. Taylor Townsend (born April 16, 1996) is an American professional tennis player. She reached career-high WTA rankings of world No. 61 in singles (July 2018) and No. 31 in doubles (December 2022).
