2023 Martyr's Memorial A-Division League
The 2023 ''Martyr's Memorial'' A-Division League ( Nepali: शहीद स्मारक ए डिभिजन लिग २०७९) was the 45th edition of the Martyr's Memorial A-Division League since its establishment in 1954–55. A total of 14 teams competed in the league. Machhindra F.C. were the defending champions. The league was scheduled to begin on 10 January 2023 but was pushed back to begin on 3 March 2023 due to a conflict between the All Nepal Football Association and the clubs regarding up-front payments. On 6 June 2023, Church Boys United were crowned as league winners for the first time in club history in what the Kathmandu Post called a "fairytale run," resulting in the team winning the title for three consecutive seasons after being promoted in the two years prior respectively. Martyr's Memorial A-Division League
Martyr's Memorial A-Division League ( Nepali: शहीद स्मारक ए- डिभिजन लिग; formerly known as the Kathmandu League Championship) is the top divisions of football in Nepal. Contested by 12 to 16 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the Martyr's Memorial B-Division League. The season usually runs from November to March with every team playing each other once and the top six teams reach the Super Six round, where the teams again play each other once. It is officially known as the Qatar Airways Martyr's Memorial A-Division League. A new Nepal National League was created in 2011 to give chance to compete A level tournaments to the clubs outside Kathmandu valley. Sankata Boys Sports Club, commonly known as Sankata Club, is a Nepalese professional football club based in Kathmandu, that competes in the Martyr's Memorial A-Division League. Named after Sankata Temple, the club has won the national championship three times, most recently in 1985. New Road Team ( ne, न्यु रोड टिम; better known by its abbreviation NRT) is a Nepalese multi-sports club, widely known for its football achievements. The club is based in Tripureshwor, Kathmandu. They compete in the Martyr's Memorial A-Division League. History NRT was established in 1991 BS (1934 AD). Besides sports, the club was also active in mobilizing youth against the autocratic Rana regime. NRT is the oldest existing club in the Nepal. Machhindra FC (formally known as Machhindra Bahal Club) is a Nepali professional football club from the central Kathmandu, neighborhood of Keltole, playing in the Martyr's Memorial A-Division League. History Machhindra FC was established in 1973. For sponsorship reasons, it was named ''Machhindra Bahal Club'' in 2004, and ''Machhindra Energizer FC'' in 2006. The club was promoted to Nepal's top football division in 2004. The 2021–22 ''Martyr's Memorial'' A-Division League ( Nepali: शहीद स्मारक ए डिभिजन लिग २०७८), also known as the Qatar Airways ''Martyr's Memorial'' A-Division League for sponsorship reasons, was the 44th edition of the Martyr's Memorial A-Division League since its establishment in 1954/55. 2022 Martyr's Memorial B-Division League
The 2022 Martyr's Memorial B-Division League season is the ongoing edition of the Martyr's Memorial B-Division League. It started on 2 March 2022. Teams A total of 14 teams will contest the league with a relegation system. Ten teams from 2020 season, one team relegated from A-Division and three teams promoted from C-Division will participate in the league. Saraswati Youth Club was relegated from 2019–20 season, while Church Boys, Birgunj United Club and Samajik Yuwa Club were promoted from 2021 season.
