2023 IIHF World U18 Championships
The 2023 IIHF U18 World Championship was the 24th such event hosted by the International Ice Hockey Federation. Teams participated at several levels of competition. The competition also served as qualifications for the 2024 competition. Top Division The tournament was held in Basel and Porrentruy, Switzerland, from 20 to 30 April 2023. Will Smith (ice Hockey)
William Smith (born March 17, 2005) is an American collegiate ice hockey player for Boston College of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). He was drafted fourth overall by the San Jose Sharks in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career In Smith's first year in the national program, he scored 37 points in 35 games with the under-17 team. In his first draft-eligible year, he centered the under-18 team's first line, scoring over two points per game, and was named MVP of the BioSteel All-American Game. International play At the 2023 IIHF World U18 Championships, Smith led the tournament in scoring with nine goals and 20 points in seven games and won a gold medal. Eduard Šalé (born 10 March 2005) is a Czech professional ice hockey forward for the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) as a prospect to the Seattle Kraken of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was drafted 20th overall by the Kraken in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. Playing career Šalé played as a youth within hometown club, HC Kometa Brno, first appearing as a 13 year-old at the under-16 level. Overtime is a method of determining a winner in an ice hockey game when the score is tied after regulation. The main methods of determining a winner in a tied game are the overtime period (commonly referred to as overtime), the shootout, or a combination of both. If league rules dictate a finite time in which overtime may be played, with no penalty shoot-out to follow, the game's winning team may or may not be necessarily determined. Raiffeisen Arena
The Raiffeisen Arena is an ice hockey arena in Porrentruy, Switzerland. The arena serves as the home for HC Ajoie of the National League (NL). History Raiffeisen Arena was formerly known as Patinoire de Porrentruy and has been the home arena for HC Ajoie since 1973. In 2018, the Porrentruy District voted yes on the renovation and expansion of the arena. Ground breaking for the arena renovations began in July 2019. The arena began to be erected in November 2019. The wood for the arena was largely sourced from the surrounding communities. 2,000 cubic meter of softwood and 1,000 cubic meter of hardwood were used. The expansion began in May 2020, when the existing ice rink was renovated to meet modern standards. The new 4,650 seat arena is also used by the curling club, figure skaters and the general public for ice skating.
