2023 IIHF World Championship Division II
The 2023 IIHF World Championship Division II were two international ice hockey tournaments run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The Group A tournament was held in Madrid, Spain from 16 to 22 April and the Group B tournament in Istanbul, Turkey from 17 to 23 April 2023. Spain won the Group A tournament and got promoted, while Iceland finished last, but Georgia was later disqualified by the IIHF and relegated. The United Arab Emirates won Group B and got promoted and Mexico was relegated. Group A tournament Participants Match officials Four referees and seven linesmen were selected for the tournament. Standings After the tournament, it was determined that Georgia's entire team were Russian nationals, meaning they were ineligible. The IIHF declared the results of Georgia null and void, and assigned them zero points in the IIHF World Ranking, and Georgia was also relegated to Division II B for 2024, while Iceland, the last-placed team, retained its place in thi ... 2022 IIHF World Championship Division II
The 2022 IIHF World Championship Division II was an international ice hockey tournament run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The Group A tournament was held in Zagreb, Croatia from 25 to 30 April and the Group B tournament in Reykjavík, Iceland from 18 to 23 April 2022. After the tournament was cancelled the two previous years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all teams stayed put in their respective groups. China won Group A and got promoted to Division IB, while Iceland won Group B and got promoted to Group A. In order to fill each group of the World Championships back to their normal amount of teams, the IIHF made the decision following the tournament not to relegate Israel or Mexico, who finished last in Groups A and B respectively, but instead to promote the Netherlands and Georgia, the runners-up of each group.
