The 2023 Football South Australia season was the 117th season of soccer in South Australia and the 11th under the National Premier Leagues banner. The National Premier Leagues South Australia began on 17 February and concluded on 8 September. State League 1 South Australia and State League 2 South Australia began on 18 February and concluded on 9 September. The Women's National Premier Leagues South Australia began on 10 March and concluded on 15 September. The Women's State League South Australia began on 25 March and concluded on 13 August. The Football South Australia (FSA), formerly known as Football Federation South Australia (FFSA), is the governing body of football (also known as soccer) in South Australia, established in 2006. Description Football South Australia are affiliated with Football Australia, the sport's national governing body. The FSA run the highest level of football in the state of South Australia, the semi-professional National Premier Leagues South Australia, below this they run State League 1 and State League 2 which are level 2 and 3 on the state's football league pyramid, and levels 3 and 4 on the national pyramid. Adelaide Comets FC are a soccer club based in Adelaide, South Australia. The club competes in the National Premier Leagues South Australia. They are based in Adelaide's western suburb of Mile End and play home games at Santos Stadium. History Adelaide Comets Football Club was formed in 1994 and were known as Adelaide Raiders Soccer Club who competed in the SAASL (South Australian Amateur Soccer League). To avoid confusion with another local soccer club which plays under the name of "Raiders", the playing name was changed to Adelaide Comets in 2001 when the club first fielded junior teams. The club was known historically as Juventus — the original name given to the club by its founders in Adelaide's Italian community. Adelaide United Football Club Youth is the youth system of Adelaide United Football Club based in Adelaide, South Australia. Sturt Lions Soccer Club is an Australian professional football club in Adelaide, South Australia. Nicknamed the Lions, Sturt are associated with FFSA, and they currently play in the NPL South Australia. The league is a first tier-league in South Australia and second-tier nationally.
