2023 F1 Academy
The 2023 F1 Academy was a motor racing championship that was the inaugural season of the F1 Academy, an all-female Formula 4-level racing series founded and organized under the management of Formula Motorsport Limited. Its season commenced on 29 April at Red Bull Ring and concluded on 22 October supporting the United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas. Marta García won the drivers' championship with two races to spare, as her team Prema Racing won the teams' championship. Entries The following teams and drivers are under contract to compete in the 2023 championship. As the championship is a spec series, all teams will compete with an identical Tatuus F4-T-421 chassis and tyre compounds developed by Pirelli. F1 Academy
F1 Academy is a female-only single-seater racing championship founded by Formula One. The championship is a spec series, with all teams competing with an identical Tatuus F4-T-421 chassis and tyre compounds developed by Pirelli. Each car is powered by a 165-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder engine developed by Autotecnica. Its inaugural season in 2023 was won by Marta García driving for Prema Racing, who won the teams' championship. History The championship traces its roots back to 2004, when Formula Woman was established due to the lack of female drivers in other series. In 2018, the W Series was created for the same reason. Nerea Martí
Nerea Martí (born 2 January 2002 in Albalat dels Sorells) is a Spanish female racing driver. She currently competes in F1 Academy. Career Karting Martí began karting aged nine through her father's rental kart track. Late in her karting career, she was contracted to Fórmula de Campeones in an attempt to step up into professional racing. Lower formulae Martí made her single-seater debut in Spanish Formula 4 in 2019, scoring a podium in her first event. A pair of seventh places late in the season would see her finish 16th in the standings and 2nd in the female trophy behind Belén García. W Series In 2020, Martí qualified for the second edition of the W Series, a Formula 3 championship exclusively for women. Megan Gilkes
Megan Gilkes (born 6 November 2000 in Richmond Hill, Ontario) is a Canadian former racing driver who last competed in F1 Academy. She previously competed in the now defunct W Series in 2019. Biography A third-generation racer, Gilkes began karting aged nine in her then-home of Barbados. Following a break from racing after a crash in qualifying at the World Finals where she broke her wrist, she won the Ottawa Challenge Karting Cup in her home country of Canada, and finished runner up in the 2016 Eastern Canadian Karting Championship as an ambassador for ''Dare to be Different''. In 2017, Gilkes stepped up to single-seaters in the Canadian F1200 championship. Despite not contesting all of the rounds in either season she competed in, she finished third and second overall in consecutive years. Jessica Edgar
Jessica Edgar (born 15 March 2005) is a British racing driver who is currently competing in F1 Academy for Rodin Motorsport. Career Karting Edgar started her racing career in karting in 2010. In 2013, she moved up to the Cadet category. In 2017, she became champion of the Cumbria Kart Racing Club in Rowrah. In 2018, she won several kart races in the Mini X30 category. In 2019, she came second in this category in the Motorsport UK Kartmasters Grand Prix and fourth in the British Kart Championship. Also that year, Edgar took part in the FIA Motorsport Games in the Karting Slalom Cup. She missed the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but returned to karting in 2021 and finished thirteenth in the X30 Junior category of the British championship that year. Abbi Pulling (born 21 March 2003) is a British racing driver. She currently competes for Racing X in the W Series, and is a member of the Alpine Affiliate programme. Career Karting Pulling started karting competitively in 2013 at the age of 9. She mainly developed her karting career in Britain, winning the Super 1 National Junior TKM Championship twice in 2017 and 2018. Ginetta Juniors and GT5 Challenge Pulling began her racing career in early 2018, taking part in the first three rounds of the Ginetta Junior Championship for Total Control Racing, with little success. Carrie Schreiner (born 14 September 1998) is a racing driver from Germany, currently competing for ART Grand Prix at the inaugural F1 Academy season. Biography Carrie Schreiner began her motorsport career in karting. Between 2011 and 2014 she drove in the ADAC Kart Masters, achieving her greatest success in 2012 when she won the X30 Junior championship title. She then switched to single-seater racing and competed in ADAC Formula 4 in 2015 and 2016. At the same time, she drove in the British Formula 4 Championship in 2016, where she finished 17th overall. In 2017, Schreiner moved up to GT cars via the Lamborghini Super Trofeo, competing in several of their championships over the next two years. ART Grand Prix is a French motor racing team that competes in formula single-seaters in Europe. In 2012, it competed in the GP2 Series and GP3 Series as Lotus GP to reflect sponsorship from British sports and racing car manufacturer Lotus. The team competed as Lotus ART in 2011. Amna Al Qubaisi (; born 28 March 2000) is an Emirati racing driver. On the 16th of December 2018, she became the first Middle Eastern woman to take part in a motorsport test program for Formula E after the Diriyah ePrix in Saudi Arabia. This was just a few months after a ban, prohibiting all women from driving, was lifted within Saudi Arabia on the 24th of June 2018. Emely de Heus (born 10 February 2003) is a Dutch racing driver competing in the 2022 W Series. Personal life De Heus was born in Mijnsheerenland, Netherlands. Her father is Bert de Heus, a veteran amateur driver in the 24H Series endurance racing championship. Her family own and operate De Heus Tractors, based in Mijnsheerenland. De Heus is currently studying for a degree in marketing and communications at the Johan Cruyff Institute.
