2023 European U23 Wrestling Championships
The 2023 European U23 Wrestling Championships was the 8th edition of the European U23 Wrestling Championships of combined events, and it was held from 13 to 19 March in Bucharest, Romania. Incidents The Azerbaijani wrestler, Rahim Hasanov, hit the Armenian athlete, Karapet Manvelyan, in the face after losing in the quarter-finals of the championship, when the latter was reaching out to him for a handshake. The International Wrestling Federation disqualified Hasanov for unsportsmanlike behaviour. In the match between Solomon Manashvili of Georgia and Vakhit Galayev of Azerbaijan, the referees showed red cards to both wrestlers and disqualified them after a fight broke out after the end of the match. Quarterfinal losers Volodymyr Kochanov of Ukraine and Martin Simonyan of Armenia played a semifinal match again. Vladimeri Gamkrelidze (born 11 June 2001) is a Georgian freestyle wrestler. He won the silver medal in the men's 79kg event at the 2023 World Wrestling Championships held in Belgrade, Serbia. Career Gamkrelidze won the bronze medal at the 2022 European Wrestling Championships in Budapest, Hungary by defeating Armenian Arman Avagyan 9–7 in the third place match in the 79 kg freestyle category. On 18 September 2023, Gamkrelidze won a silver medal in the 79 kg weight category at the 2023 World Wrestling Championships in Belgrade In the final, in a very hard-fought match, he lost 1:4 to Russian wrestler Akhmed Usmanov.
