2023 European Mixed Team Badminton Championships
The 2023 European Mixed Team Badminton Championships was held in Aire-sur-la-Lys, France, between 14 and 18 February 2023 and organised by Badminton Europe and French Badminton Federation. The host location was announced in December 2021 by Badminton Europe. These championships also act as the European qualification event for 2023 Sudirman Cup. This time 26 countries are participating and will be divided into five qualification groups which will be played in five different locations. Aire-sur-la-Lys
Aire-sur-la-Lys (, literally ''Aire on the Lys''; vls, Ariën-aan-de-Leie) is a commune in the Pas-de-Calais department in northern France. Geography The commune is located 16 kilometres (10 mi) southeast of Saint-Omer, at the junction of the N43 with several departmental roads, by the banks of the Leie ( French: ''Lys'') and the Laquette rivers. History Aire-sur-la-Lys is mentioned for the first time in 857. It developed around a fort or castrum built by Baldwin II, Count of Flanders in response to the Norman invasions. More growth followed with the establishment of the Collegiate church of Saint-Pierre by Baldwin V, Count of Flanders. The town was laid siege ten times between 1127 and 1710. Mikkel Mikkelsen (born 22 May 1992) is a Danish badminton player. In 2016, he won the mixed doubles titles at the Portugal International tournament partnered with Mai Surrow. Toma Junior Popov
Toma Junior Popov (born 29 September 1998) is a French badminton player. He won the bronze medal at the 2015 European Junior Championships in the boys' singles event. Popov made history as the first non-Danish male player to win a European Junior team gold as well as the men's singles and doubles in 2017. He joined Peter Gade, Jim Laugesen, and Thomas Stuer-Lauridsen as the only men to have ever completed the treble. He competed at the 2018 Mediterranean Games and claimed the men's singles bronze medal. Personal life Born in Sofia, Popov came from a badminton family. Thom Gicquel
Thom Mark Gicquel (born 12 January 1999) is a French badminton player. Born in Tours, he started playing badminton at aged six in his parents club. Gicquel made his debut in the international senior tournament at the 2015 Riga International in Latvia, finished as the men's doubles runner-up partnered with Thomas Baures. He was part of the national junior team that won the bronze medal at the 2015 European Junior Championships, and made it to the gold medal in 2017. He also won the gold medal in the boys' doubles event with Toma Junior Popov. At the 2018 European Men's Team Championships, he helped the team claim the bronze medal. Qi Xuefei (; born 28 February 1992) is a Chinese-born French badminton player. As a Nanjing native, Qi came to France to play a few Inter-club matches in Rostrenen in 2014. She married her physiotherapist in 2015, and decided to settle in Rostrenen. She obtained her French nationality in 2018, and at the same year, she entered the women's singles team in INSEP. Lucas Maurice Corvée (born 9 June 1993) is a French badminton player affiliated with Issy Les Moulineaux 92 club. Corvée started playing badminton at aged 6 in Alençon badminton club. His mother also a professional badminton player. Léonice Huet (born 21 May 2000) is a French badminton player. Born in Dieppe, Seine-Maritime, she started her career in BadBonneval club, and in 2014 joined the CLT Orléans. She won her first senior international title at the 2016 Latvia International tournament in the mixed doubles event at the age of 16. Delphine Aurore Delrue (born 6 November 1998) is a French badminton player. Delrue started playing badminton at aged seven, and she affiliate with the USEE Badminton club in 2006. Delrue was selected to join the national team in INSEP in 2016. In 2015, she became the runner-up of European University Championships in the women's doubles and mixed doubles events. Christo Popov (born 8 March 2002) is a French badminton player who affiliate with Fos club. He was the boys' doubles European U15 and U17 Junior Champions, also won the boys' singles silver medals at the 2018 European and 2019 World Junior Championships.
