2023 Australian Open – Men's Doubles
Rinky Hijikata and Jason Kubler defeated Hugo Nys and Jan Zieliński in the final, 6–4, 7–6(7–4) to win the men's doubles tennis title at the 2023 Australian Open. Awarded a wildcard into the tournament, Hijikata and Kubler saved a match point en route to the title, in their third round match against Tomislav Brkić and Gonzalo Escobar. Nys became the first ever Monegasque player to reach the semifinal and final of a major. Thanasi Kokkinakis and Nick Kyrgios were the reigning champions, but the pair withdrew due to Kyrgios' knee injury. Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski will regain the ATP No. 1 doubles ranking courtesy of making the quarterfinals and other contenders losing in the earlier rounds. Rajeev Ram, Mate Pavić, Marcelo Arévalo and Jean-Julien Rojer were also in contention for the top ranking at the beginning of the tournament. Rinky Hijikata
is an Australian professional tennis player. Following a successful career at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Hijikata went professional and has a career high ATP singles ranking of world No. 70 achieved on 16 October 2023 and in doubles of world No. 31 on the same date. Early life and education Hijikata was born in Sydney, Australia to Japanese immigrant parents. He began playing tennis at age three or four. He attended The King's School in Sydney from 2013 to 2016. Rohan Bopanna ( ; born 4 March 1980) is an Indian professional tennis player. His tennis singles, singles career-high ranking was world No. 213 in 2007 and his career-high ranking in doubles was world No. 3 on 22 July 2013. Fabio Fognini (; born 24 May 1987) is an Italian professional tennis player. He has a career-high ranking of world No. 9 achieved on 15 July 2019. He is currently ranked (July 2022) in 64th place by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).
