2023 ABL Season
The 2023 ABL Invitational was the eleventh season of competition of the ASEAN Basketball League. The regular season tipped off on 2 January in Singapore, before moving to 3 other host countries. The season ended with the finals played from 3rd to 15th March. The 2023 season featured eight teams from the region. Teams 2019–20 ABL season participants Formosa Dreamers, Taipei Fubon Braves, Mono Vampire, Alab Pilipinas, Macau Wolf Warriors and the Kuala Lumpur Dragons did not participate for the 2023 season. Personnel Imports All teams can register a maximum of 3 foreigners and 1 heritage player. The salary cap for the foreign players is set at US$ 20,000 per month. Regular season The regular season announced a new format. There will be four rolling tournaments before the lead up to best-of-three semi-finals and finals. ASEAN Basketball League
The ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) is a professional men's basketball league in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong/Macau, which includes six teams from Southeast Asian nations (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam), one team from Hong Kong, and one team from Macau. The league was proposed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and launched its inaugural season on 1 October 2009. Jeff Viernes
Jeff Alvin Dumelod Viernes (born May 18, 1989) is a Filipino basketball player for the Sarangani Marlins of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL). Early life Viernes was born in May 18, 1989, in the province of Isabela. He hails from the town of Delfin Albano. He was inspired to take up basketball after watching Michael Jordan figure for the Chicago Bulls against the Utah Jazz in the Game 6 of the 1998 NBA Finals. Playing career Collegiate career Viernes started his playing career for Metro Manila College in 2009 before moving to the University of Manila to play for the UM Hawks of the National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU). In 2009, Viernes was named Rookie of the Year. In 2011, he was named season MVP. Chris McLaughlin (born 1955) is a British journalist, who between 2004–2018 was the editor of the Labour Party-supporting weekly UK magazine ''Tribune''. In professional sports, a salary cap (or wage cap) is an agreement or rule that places a limit on the amount of money that a team can spend on players' salaries. It exists as a per-player limit or a total limit for the team's roster, or both.
