2022–23 Angolan Basketball League
The 2022–23 Angolan Basketball League, for sponsorship reasons known as the 2022–23 Unitel Basket, was the 45th season of the Angolan Basketball League, the highest premier basketball league in Angola. The season consisted of thirteen teams and began on 21 October 2022 and ended on 19 April 2023 with the conclusion of the finals. The format of the previous season stayed mostly the same. The finals were announced to be changed to a best-of-seven series; however, eventually a best-of-five system was still used. Petro de Luanda won its 16th national title after defeating Primeiro de Agosto in the play-off finals. Regular season (C): Champions; SourceFAB/small> Playoffs The playoffs began on 27 March 2023. Paulo Barros, (born 13 March 1989), is an Angolan professional basketball player who has represented his country internationally. Barros, who stands at 195 cm (6'5"), plays as a small forward. Childe Madaleno Fortuna Dundão (born 17 May 1998) is an Angolan basketball player who plays for Petro de Luanda of the Angolan Basketball League and the Basketball Africa League (BAL). Standing at , he plays as point guard. Professional career Dundão started his career with Petro de Luanda in 2016. On 8 January, he re-signed for another season. Dundão helped Petro reach the 2022 BAL Finals as the team's starting point guard, gathering All-Defensive Team honours in the same season. Carlos Edilson Alcântara Morais (; born 16 October 1985) is an Angolan basketball player for the Petro de Luanda of the Angolan Basketball League. Standing at , he plays as shooting guard, or small forward. Morais is one of the most decorated players ever in Angolan basketball, as he has won nine Angolan League titles and was the league's MVP once (in 2007) and scoring leader four times. José Alves dos Santos Neto (born 16 March 1971) is a Brazilian professional basketball coach. He is the current head coach of Petro de Luanda (basketball), Petro de Luanda in the Angolan Basketball League, as well as for the Brazil women's national basketball team. Atlético Petróleos de Luanda, commonly known as Petro de Luanda, is an Angolan basketball club based in Luanda. It competes at the local level, at the Luanda Provincial Basketball Championship and at the Angola National Basketball Championship. Additionally, the club plays at the continental level, at the Basketball Africa League (BAL). Established in 1976, the team is part of a multi-sports club which includes a football and handball team as well.
