COVID-19 Pandemic
The COVID-19 pandemic, also known as the coronavirus pandemic, is an ongoing global pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Jacob Rascon
Jacob Rascon is an American journalist and a reporter for KTRK-TV in Houston, after moving from competitor station, the NBC affiliate KPRC-TV. Rascon is the son of former news anchor Art Rascon who worked for KTRK-TV from 1998 to 2022, when he stepped down. The pair co-anchored a newscast together before Art retired and Jacob began working on air full time the following day. Rascon was previously a Dallas-based correspondent for NBC News and before that, a reporter for KNBC, the NBC owned-and-operated station in Los Angeles. Rascon is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and he served an LDS Mission in Uruguay after finishing high school. Owned-and-operated Station
In the broadcasting industry, an owned-and-operated station (frequently abbreviated as an O&O) usually refers to a television or radio station owned by the network with which it is associated. This distinguishes such a station from an affiliate, which is independently owned and carries network programming by contract. The concept of an O&O is clearly defined in the United States and Canada (and to some extent, several other countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Japan), where network-owned stations had historically been the exception rather than the rule. In such places, broadcasting licenses are generally issued on a local (rather than national) basis, and there is (or was) some sort of regulatory mechanism in place to prevent any company (including a broadcasting network) from owning stations in every market in the country. Art Rascon (born December 4, 1962) is an American former news anchor for Disney-owned KTRK in Houston, Texas. Prior to joining KTRK, he worked as a CBS News correspondent on assignments that included international reporting for the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather and 48 Hours. He also reported for CBS Radio, which earned him a national Edward R. Murrow award for his spot coverage of Hurricane Opal in 1995.
