2022 World Masters (darts)
The 2022 World Masters (officially referred to as the 2022 Winmau World Masters) was the 47th edition of the World Masters organised by the World Darts Federation. The tournament was held at the De Bonte Wever in Assen, Netherlands. John O'Shea who won the previous men's tournament was absent from the event, having switched to the Professional Darts Corporation in January 2022. Lisa Ashton as three-time champion did not defending her title. Prize money Men's Format and seeds All competitors was start the tournament in the first-round group-stage on 8 December 2022. Group sizes were determined by the total number of registered entries prior to the draw. There will be 64 seeded players in men’s competition. De Bonte Wever
De Bonte Wever (formerly De Smelt) is a sports arena located in Assen, Netherlands. De venue opened in the 1970s with a 400-meter speed skating track. World Darts Federation
The World Darts Federation (WDF) is a sport governing body and (along with the PDC) a tournament organiser for the game of darts. It was formed in 1974 by representatives of the original fourteen founding members. Membership is open to the national organizing body for darts in all nations. The WDF encourages the promotion of the sport of darts among and between those bodies, in an effort to gain international recognition for darts as a major sport. The WDF is a full member of Global Association of International Sports Federations, which is the governing body for international sports federations. 2019 World Masters (darts)
The 2019 One80 L-style World Masters was a major tournament on the BDO/ WDF calendar for 2019. It took place from 23 to 28 October at the Circus Tavern in Purfleet, Essex, which hosted the PDC World Darts Championship from 1994 to 2007. Adam Smith-Neale was the reigning men's champion after defeating Glen Durrant in the previous year's final by 6 sets to 4, but lost in the Last 128 to Hannes Schnier of Austria. Lisa Ashton was the defending women's champion after defeating Casey Gallagher 4 legs to 2 in last year's women final. She defended her title successfully with a 5 to 4 legs final win over Anastasia Dobromyslova. John O`Shea won his first major title with a 6 sets to 4 win over Scott Waites. World Masters (darts)
The World Masters is one of the longest-running and most prestigious of the BDO/WDF tournaments, which began in 1974. The tournament is sponsored by darts board manufacturer, Winmau. The World Masters was unusual in darts in that its sets are the best of 3 legs (first to 2) rather than the standard best of 5 legs (first to 3). It was previously the final leg of the BDO's Grand Slam title of televised majors, along with the BDO World Darts Championship, International Darts League and World Darts Trophy, until the latter two tournaments were axed in 2008. The champion is referred to as the World Master. After the collapse of the British Darts Organisation in September 2020, the World Darts Federation announced plans to launch the WDF World Masters. John O'Shea (darts Player)
John O'Shea (born 24 July 1975) is a professional Irish darts player, who plays in the Professional Darts Corporation events. His most notable achievement is winning the 2019 World Masters, the first Irish player to win a major global tournament in many years. Career O' Shea had his biggest career win to date at the controversial 2019 World Masters, one of three Irish players winning titles at the tournament. Unseeded in the draw, he defeated Neil Duff, Mario Vandenbogaerde and Scott Waites in the final stages. In doing so, he became the first Irish player in the modern era to win a major tournament. The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) is a professional darts organisation in the United Kingdom, established in 1992 when a group of leading players split from the British Darts Organisation (BDO) to form what was initially called the World Darts Council (WDC). Sports promoter Eddie Hearn is the PDC chairman. The PDC developed and holds several championship competitions, including the annual PDC World Darts Championship, the World Matchplay, World Grand Prix, UK Open, Premier League, and Grand Slam. Lisa Ashton
Lisa Ashton (born 27 August 1970) is an English professional darts player who currently plays in World Darts Federation (WDF) and Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. She is a four-time BDO World Darts Women's Champion and has won over 100 titles in women's darts. In 2020, she became the first woman to win a PDC Tour Card at the PDC Q-School. Career Ashton reached the quarter-finals of the 2007 Women's World Masters, beating 1996 finalist Heike Jenkins (Ernst) in the last 16 before losing to Rilana Erades. The next year, she reached the semi-finals, beating Anne Kirk in the last 16 and then beat Australia's Cathy Shaw, before losing to eventual winner Francis Hoenselaar.
