2022 Wheelchair Basketball World Championships
The 2022 Wheelchair Basketball World Championships were held at the Dubai World Trade Centre in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from 8 to 20 June 2023. Both men's and women's tournaments have been played, with 12 women's and 16 men's teams competing, representing 20 different nations. Each team selected 12 players for the tournament. The men's competition was won by the United States, with Great Britain winning silver and Iran winning bronze. The women's competition was won by the Netherlands, with China winning silver and the United States winning bronze. Event The event was held at the Dubai World Trade Centre in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates 8 to 20 June 2023. Originally scheduled to be held in November 2022, it was postponed to June 2023 in order not to clash with the 2022 FIFA World Cup being held in Qatar, but the name of the event was not changed. Dubai World Trade Centre
The Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) ( ar, مركز دبي التجاري العالمي), historically called Sheikh Rashid Tower, is a 38-storey and a height 184 m skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, which was erected in 1979. It is a purpose-built complex for events and exhibitions. The building is featured on the 100 dirham bank note. In 2017, she played for the Sydney Metro Blues in the Women's National Wheelchair Basketball League in Australia. Arinn Young (born July 10, 1996) is a Canadian 4.5 point wheelchair basketball player who won a gold medal at the 2014 Women's World Wheelchair Basketball Championship in Toronto. Biography Arinn Young was born in St. Albert, Alberta, on July 10, 1996. She is nicknamed "Juice" due to her practice of drinkling juice boxes during a game. She started playing basketball when she was five years old, and went on to win 15 MVP awards and two city championships. She also played other sports, including lacrosse and horse riding, and was placed third in shot-put at the Alberta Track and Field Provincial Championship. Helen Freeman (born 23 November 1989) is a 4.0 point British wheelchair basketball player who represented Great Britain in five European championships, and at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London and the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro. Amber Merritt
Amber Merritt (born 17 February 1993) is a 4.5-point wheelchair basketball player who plays forward. She represented Australia at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, where she won a silver medal and at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo. Hannah Dodd (born 27 April 1992) is an Australian Grade IV equestrian and 1.0 point wheelchair basketball player who represented Australia in equestrian at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, coming 11th and 12th in her events. Switching to wheelchair basketball, she made her debut with the national team at the Osaka Cup in February 2015. In 2008, Dodd was the Australian national Grade IV para-equestrian champion. Cindy Ouellet (born December 8, 1988) is a Canadian Paralympic wheelchair basketball player. Early life Cindy Ouellet was born on December 8, 1988, in Rivière-du-Loup, Quebec, Canada. At age 12 she was diagnosed with bone cancer which quickly ended her dream of becoming a soccer player and skier. Career Ouellet took up wheelchair basketball in 2005.
