2022 Washington State Senate Election
The 2022 Washington State Senate elections took place as part of the biennial 2022 United States elections, United States elections. Washington (state), Washington state voters elected state senators in 26 of the state's Washington state legislative districts, 49 Senate districts. The other 23 state senators were not up for re-election until the next biennial election in 2024. State senators served four-year terms in the Washington State Senate. A top two primary election in August 2022 determined which candidates appear on the November 6 general election ballot. Each candidate was allowed to write in their party preference so that it appeared as they desired on the ballot. Following the 2020 state senate elections, Democratic Party (United States), Democrats maintained control of the Senate, 28–21. Washington State Senate
The Washington State Senate is the upper house of the Washington State Legislature. The body consists of 49 members, each representing a district with a population of nearly 160,000. The State Senate meets at the Legislative Building in Olympia. As with the lower House of Representatives, state senators serve without term limits, though senators serve four-year terms. Senators are elected from the same legislative districts as House members, with each district electing one senator and two representatives. Terms are staggered so that half the Senate is up for reelection every two years. Like other upper houses of state and territorial legislatures and the federal U.S. Senate, the state senate can confirm or reject gubernatorial appointments to the state cabinet, commissions and boards. Jim Honeyford
James Dwight Honeyford (born January 24, 1939) is an American politician of the Republican Party. He served as a member of the Washington State Senate, representing the 15th district between 1999 and 2023. Early life and education Honeyford was born in Ontario, Oregon. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology and a Master of Education from Central Washington University. Matthew A. Boehnke (born June 1968) is an American politician from Washington. Boehnke is a Republican member of the Washington State Senate. Career Boehnke, a former lieutenant colonel in the United States Army, was first elected to the state legislature in 2018, running against Democratic candidate Christopher Tracy for an open seat vacated by the departure of Larry Haler.
