2022 Texas Tech Red Raiders Football Team
The 2022 Texas Tech Red Raiders football team represents Texas Tech University during the 2022 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Red Raiders play their home games at Jones AT&T Stadium and Cody Campbell Field in Lubbock, Texas, and compete in the Big 12 Conference. They are led by first-year head coach Joey McGuire. The Red Raiders finished the regular season 7–5, 5–4 in Big 12 play, for the program's first winning conference record since 2009. Additionally, Texas Tech defeated Texas and Oklahoma in the same season for the first time in program history. The 2017 Birmingham Bowl was a college football bowl game played on December 23, 2017, at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama, United States. The twelfth edition of the Birmingham Bowl featured the Texas Tech Red Raiders of the Big 12 Conference against the South Florida Bulls of the American Athletic Conference. ''Abilene Reporter-News'' is a daily newspaper based in Abilene, Texas, United States. The newspaper started publishing as the weekly ''Abilene Reporter'', helmed by Charles Edwin Gilbert on June 17, 1881, just three months after Abilene was founded. It is hence the oldest continuous business in the city. It became a daily newspaper in 1885. Keith Patterson
Keith Patterson (born May 20, 1964) is an American football coach. He is the head football coach at Abilene Christian University. Prior to that he was the defensive coordinator at Texas Tech University; while there, Patterson served as the team's head coach for a win against Kansas in 2020. Patterson was previously the defensive coordinator at Arizona State University for four years. Patterson was also the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach for the West Virginia Mountaineers. Before one season at West Virginia, Patterson was the defensive coordinator for the Arkansas State Red Wolves on January 4, 2012, only to resign from the position six weeks later to join the West Virginia coaching staff. Donovan Smith is an American football quarterback for Houston. He previously played college football for Texas Tech. Early life and high school career Smith originally attended Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, Nevada, mainly playing as a wide receiver while also serving as the team's backup quarterback. DeAndre Smith
DeAndre Smith is an American football coach and former player in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for the Toronto Argonauts and in France Ligue Élite de Football Américain for the Aix-en-Provence Argonautes in 1993. He is currently the running backs coach for the Indianapolis Colts. Smith previously served as the running backs coach at Texas Tech from 2019 to 2021. Sonny Jack Cumbie (born August 8, 1981) is an American football coach and former quarterback. He is the head football coach at Louisiana Tech University, a position he has held since the 2022 season. Cumbie previously served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Texas Tech University and was the interim head coach after the departure of Matt Wells in 2021.
