2022 Swedish Speedway Season
The 2022 Swedish Speedway season was the 2022 season of speedway in Sweden. Smederna won the Elitserien and were declared the winners of the Swedish Speedway Team Championship. Valsarna won the Allsvenskan (second tier league). Earlier in March 2022, Vetlanda were declared bankrupt and would not compete during the season. History Of Motorcycle Speedway In Sweden
The History of motorcycle speedway in Sweden consists of the league tables of motorcycle speedway in Sweden. History The first season was in 1948 but it was during the 1950s motorcycle speedway became one of Sweden's most popular team sports where each fixture drew audiences between 10,000 and 20,000 people. The Swedish Speedway Team Championship was founded a few years earlier in 1948 and was inspired by British speedway including adopting the British teams nicknames in Swedish versions. For instance the Norrköping team became Vargarna (English: "The Wolves"), the Eskilstuna team became Smederna (English: "The Blacksmiths") and the club Motorsällskapet became Getingarna (English: "The Wasps"). As popularity of the sport grew there were many new clubs founded all around Sweden and during the 1950s more than 30 different clubs competed at least one season in the league system. Glottra Skog Arena
The Glottra Skog Arena or Sannaheds Motorstadion is a 15,000-capacity motorcycle speedway stadium, south of Kumla in Sweden. The Arena is the home venue of the speedway team called Indianerna who race in the Eliserien, which is the highest league in Swedish speedway. The primary 500c track measures 375 metres in circumference, while a smaller 80cc track is 175 metres. The stadium called the (Kumla Motorstadion) at the time, was built in 1946 and attracted 23,000 to the first meeting on 16 June 1946. The venue also staged ice racing speedway. Rospiggarna
Rospiggarna is a motorcycle speedway team based in Hallstavik, Sweden. The club was founded in 1930 and were named ''Orion'', although it did not compete in the Swedish speedway leagues until 1966. The club joined the Swedish Division Three in 1966 and the team name was changed to ''Stjärnorna'' (English: The Stars). In 1978 the name was changed again to Rospiggarna which is the demonym for people from Roslagen, where Hallstavik is situated. Rospiggarna have won four Elitserien Championships and has also been the home team of 4 former World Champions, Tony Rickardsson, Per Jonsson, Greg Hancock and Jason Crump. In 2010 it was announced that the club voluntarily made the decision to drop down a division due to financial problems. Motala Arena
Motala Arena or Autoexperten Arena for sponsorship purposes is a motorcycle speedway track located in the southern outskirts of Motala. The track is on the Vinnerstadsvägen road and forms part of the Dunteberget Motorstadion, which includes motocross and a smaller speedway track inside the standard track. The stadium hosts the Piraterna speedway team that compete in the Swedish Speedway Team Championship and have been champions of Sweden on two occasions. History The stadium opened in 1972 and hosted significant speedway events such as a qualifying event for the World Championship from 1979 to 1983 and the semi final of the Junior European Championship in 2001. Motala () is a locality and the seat of Motala Municipality, Östergötland County, Sweden with 29,823 inhabitants (41,956 in the entire municipality) in 2010. Avesta Motorstadion also called the Arena Avesta or Stadion Brovalla is a 12,000 capacity motorcycle speedway track located 10 kilometres south of Krylbo and Avesta. The stadium is on the Swedish national road 70, in a remote area surrounded by Långheden Forest. The stadium hosts the Masarna speedway team that compete in the Swedish Speedway Team Championship and have been champions of Sweden on two occasions. Avesta (locality)
Avesta () is a locality and the seat of Avesta Municipality in Dalarna County, Sweden, with 11,949 inhabitants in 2015. The name is first found in 1303 as "Aghastadhum". ''Aghe'' is of similar origin as the word å, meaning stream, in this case the Avestafors, a tributary of the river Dalälven. ''Stadhum'' was dative plural of a word of similar origin as stead, or farm. History In the Scandinavian Middle Ages there was a blast furnace at the location. In 1636 the construction of a giant copper mine was initiated near the Avesta fors. Masarna
Masarna are a Swedish motorcycle speedway team based in Avesta (locality), Avesta, Sweden. The club was founded in 1937 as the ''Folkare Motorklubb'' but their first track was not built until 1948. Masarna joined the Swedish second division in 1958 and remained there until gaining promotion to the Elitserien (speedway), Elitserien in 1999. They then won their first Elitserien championship in 2000.
