2022 Russian Gubernatorial Elections
Gubernatorial elections were held in Russia on 11 September 2022 in 15 federal subjects. Seven incumbent governors were seeking re-election. Three regions, namely Tambov, Vladimir and Yaroslavl ''oblasts'', had their governors resigned in October 2021. On 10 May 2022, the incumbent governors of five other regions announced their resignations: Valery Radayev of Saratov Oblast and Sergey Zhvachkin of Tomsk Oblast finished their second term early, while Alexander Yevstifeyev of Mari El, Nikolay Lyubimov of Ryazan Oblast and Igor Vasilyev of Kirov Oblast resigned shortly before the end of the first five-year term. Alexander Yevstifeyev
Alexander Alexandrovich Yevstifeyev (russian: link=no, Александр Александрович Евстифеев; born 14 May 1958) is a Russian politician and jurist. From 21 September 2017 to 10 May 2022 he served as the Head of the Mari El Republic. Early life Yevstifeyev was born in the settlement of Bredy in Chelyabinsk Oblast. His father worked as a cashier in the State Bank of the USSR, and his mother was a nurse. After finishing grade school, he worked in highway management for Chelyabinsk Oblast. In 1980 Yevstifeyev graduated from the Sverdlovsk Law Institute, and in 1984 he finished his postgraduate studies. Igor Vladimirovich Vasilyev (russian: Игорь Владимирович Васильев; born 31 May 1961), from September 19, 2017 to May 10, 2022 was the 5th Governor of the Kirov Oblast. From 2014 to 2016, he was the Head of the Federal Service for State Registration, Cadastre and Cartography (Rosreestr), and from 2010 to 2013, he was the Auditor of the Accounts Chamber of Russia. From 2004 to 2010, Vasilyev was a member of the Federation Council from the executive body of the Komi Republic. He is a member of the Supreme Council of the United Russia party, and the Secretary of the Kirov regional branch of the United Russia party since 8 November 2019. 2022 Kaliningrad Oblast Gubernatorial Election
The 2022 Kaliningrad Oblast gubernatorial election took place on 9–11 September 2022, on common election day. Incumbent Governor Anton Alikhanov was elected to a second full term. Background Anton Alikhanov was appointed acting Governor of Kaliningrad Oblast in October 2016 after Yevgeny Zinichev resigned form the post due to family reasons. Alikhanov won the election with 81.06% of the vote. Due to the start of Russian special military operation in Ukraine in February 2022 and subsequent economic sanctions the cancellation and postponement of direct gubernatorial elections was proposed. The measure was even supported by A Just Russia leader Sergey Mironov. Kaliningrad Oblast (russian: Калинингра́дская о́бласть, translit=Kaliningradskaya oblast') is the westernmost federal subject of Russia. It is a semi-exclave situated on the Baltic Sea.
