2022 Rizal Local Elections
Local elections were held in the Rizal on May 9, 2022, as part of the 2022 general elections. Voters selected candidates for all local positions: a municipal/city mayor, vice mayor and town councilors, as well as members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, the governor, vice-governor and representatives for the four districts of Rizal. Background Governor Rebecca "Nini" Ynares was term-limited and illegible to run. Initially, her husband, Presidential Adviser for Southern Tagalog and former Governor Casimiro "Ito" Ynares Jr., was supposed to run, but was later substituted by their daughter, GSIS Board of Trustee Nina Ricci Ynares. Other candidates for governor were Andrew Sumulong, Jose Velasco, Benedict Angeles, and Fernando Dizon. Vice Governor ran for third and final term. Nina Ricci Alcantara Ynares-Chiongbian (born October 19, 1970) is a Filipina businesswoman and politician serving as Governor of Rizal, governor of Rizal, Philippines since 2022. Jalajala (; also spelled as Jala-jala), officially the Municipality of Jalajala ( tgl, Bayan ng Jalajala), is a 4th class municipality in the province of Rizal, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 34,017 people. Etymology What is now the town's Barangay Punta was the seat of an earlier settlement later known as Halaán. During the summer from April to May, the shores of Laguna de Bay along Punta would be filled with small shellfish locally known as ''halaán''. As is typical with many modern Philippine toponyms, the town's name supposedly resulted from miscommunication between early Spanish visitors and natives. Cardona, Rizal
Cardona, officially the Municipality of Cardona ( tgl, Bayan ng Cardona), is a 3rd class municipality in the province of Rizal, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 50,143 people. Cardona is part of the 2nd Congressional District of Rizal. Located about east of Manila. With the continuous expansion of Metro Manila, the municipality is now part of Manila's conurbation which reaches Cardona in its easternmost part. In 1855, Cardona was created as a town of the District of Morong, with boundaries set in 1857. Baras, officially the Municipality of Baras ( tgl, Bayan ng Baras), is a 4th class municipality in the province of Rizal, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 87,637 people. History In 1595, the Franciscan missionaries under the leadership of Fr. Juan de Placencia and Fr. Diego de Oropesa, founded a “visita” for Morong on the present site of Bosoboso, south of Painaan with Apostol Santiago as its patron saint.
