2022 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup
The 2022 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup was the sixteenth season of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup and the tenth year contested by the riders on equal KTM 250cc 4-stroke Moto3 bikes, was held over 14 races in seven meetings on the Grand Prix motorcycle racing calendar, beginning at Algarve International Circuit, Portimão on 23 April and ending on 5 November at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo, Valencia. The season was marred by the death of Czech rider Jakub Gurecký, who was expected to compete in 2022, but died in a private training accident riding his own bike in February. The Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup is a motorcycle racing series contested by young, up-and-coming motorcycle riders, who have not had experience in a motorcycle grand prix previously. The class was founded in 2007, and since then a number of the rookies have progressed through to the 125cc/Moto3 championship in MotoGP. Prior to the 2013 season, a 2-stroke KTM RC 125cc engine was used. The year 2013 saw a change of machinery to the 4-stroke KTM RC250RBR, following the introduction of the four-stroke Moto3 class. Circuit Ricardo Tormo, also known as ''Circuit de Valencia'' and officially named ''Circuit de la Comunitat Valenciana Ricardo Tormo'', is a motorsport race track located in Cheste (Valencian Community, Spain) and built in 1999. Jakub Gurecký (8 October 2005 – 7 February 2022) was a Czech junior motorcycle racer. His home team was Brno circuit junior racing.
