2022 Rally Italia Sardegna
The 2022 Rally Italia Sardegna (also known as the Rally Italia Sardegna 2022) was a motor racing event for rally cars held from 2 June to 5 June 2022. It was the nineteenth running of the Rally Italia Sardegna. The event was the fifth round of the 2022 World Rally Championship, World Rally Championship-2 and World Rally Championship-3. The event was based in Alghero in Sardinia and was contested over twenty-one special stages covering a total competitive distance of . Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia were the defending rally winners. However, they did not defend their title as Ogier undertakes a partial program in 2022 and Ingrassia retired from the sport at the end of the 2021 season. The 2022 FIA World Rally Championship is the fiftieth season of the World Rally Championship, an auto racing competition recognised by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) as the highest class of international rallying. Teams and crews compete for the World Rally Championships for Drivers, Co-drivers, Manufacturers and Teams. Crews are free to compete in cars complying with Groups Rally1 to Rally5 regulations; however, only manufacturers competing with Rally1 cars homologated under radically new regulations are eligible to score points in the manufacturers' championship. Thierry Jean Neuville (born 16 June 1988) is a Belgian rally driver who is competing in the World Rally Championship for Hyundai Motorsport. During his career, he has finished as runner-up in the drivers' championship five times (2013, 2016–2019). He helped Hyundai win their first manufacturers' title in 2019, as well as repeating the feat in 2020. His current co-driver is compatriot Martijn Wydaeghe. Jari Huttunen
Jari Huttunen (born 28 February 1994) is a Finnish rally driver from Kiuruvesi. He currently competes in the World Rally Championship-2, the premier support category of the World Rally Championship, for M-Sport Ford World Rally Team. He gained notoriety in the championship after winning his very first rally in the WRC-2 category, at the 2017 Rally Finland. Huttunen is the 2020 World Rally Championship-3 champion. Julien Ingrassia (born 26 November 1979) is a retired French rally co-driver. Working with Sébastien Ogier, he became World Rally Champion in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 with Volkswagen Motorsport, 2017 and 2018 with M-Sport World Rally Team, and in 2020 and 2021 with Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT. Sébastien Ogier (born 17 December 1983) is a French rally driver, competing for the Toyota Gazoo Racing Team in the World Rally Championship (WRC), who is teamed with the co-driver Julien Ingrassia. A special stage (SS) is a section of closed road at a stage rallying event used for timed speed tests. Racers attempt to complete the stage in the shortest time. A race on a special stage is coordinated such that each competing racer begins after a set interval, to reduce the chance of impedance by other competitors. Each special stage is usually between and in length. Some stages may be as long as in length. A rally usually comprises approximately 15–30 special stages, over multiple days of an event. The Rally Italia Sardegna (until 2010 Rally d'Italia Sardegna) is a Rallying, rally competition in Sardinia, Italy, which has been a round of the World Rally Championship (WRC) schedule and also the Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC). The World Rally Championship (abbreviated as WRC) is the highest level of global competition in the motorsport discipline of rallying, owned and governed by the FIA. There are separate championships for drivers, co-drivers, manufacturers and teams.
