2022 North Texas Mean Green Football Team
The 2022 North Texas Mean Green football team represented the University of North Texas as a member of Conference USA (C-USA) during the 2022 NCAA Division I FBS football season. They were led by seventh-year head coach Seth Littrell. The Mean Green played their home games at Apogee Stadium in Denton, Texas. Previous season The 2021 team started the season 1–6, before winning five games in a row to finish the regular season with a record of 6–6. The team went 5–3 in conference play to finish in third place in Conference USA's West Division. The Mean Green were invited to the inaugural Frisco Football Classic, losing 14–27 to the Miami RedHawks, finishing the season with an overall record of 6–7. Conference USA (C-USA or CUSA) is an intercollegiate athletic conference whose current member institutions are located within the Southern United States. The conference participates in the NCAA's Division I in all sports. C-USA's offices are located in Dallas, Texas. History C-USA was founded in 1995 by the merger of the Metro Conference and Great Midwest Conference, two Division I conferences that did not sponsor football. However, the merger did not include either Great Midwest member Dayton or Metro members VCU and Virginia Tech. Since this left an uneven number of schools in the conference, Houston of the dissolving Southwest Conference was extended an invitation and agreed to join following the SWC's disbanding at the end of the 1995–96 academic year. Globe Life Field is a retractable roof stadium in Arlington, Texas. It is the home ballpark of Major League Baseball's Texas Rangers. Allegiant Stadium is a domed stadium located in Paradise, Nevada. The 2022 UNLV Rebels football team represented the University of Nevada, Las Vegas as a member of the Mountain West Conference during the 2022 NCAA Division I FBS football season. They are led by head coach Marcus Arroyo, who is in his third season with the team. The Rebels will play their home games at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada. The Safeway Bowl is the name given to the North Texas–SMU football rivalry. It is a college football rivalry game between the Southern Methodist University Mustangs football team and the University of North Texas Mean Green football team, two universities in Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. History The two teams first met in 1922, with a 66–0 win for SMU over North Texas. The match-up has geographic relevance, as North Texas and SMU are the largest public and private universities in the DFW area respectively. The Sun Bowl is an outdoor football stadium in the southwestern United States, on the campus of the University of Texas at El Paso. It is home to the UTEP Miners of Conference USA, and the late December college football bowl game, the Sun Bowl.
