2022 NLCS
The 2022 National League Championship Series was the best-of-seven playoff between the San Diego Padres and the Philadelphia Phillies for the National League (NL) pennant and the right to play in the 2022 World Series. The series began on October 18 and ended on October 23. Fox and FS1 televised the games in the U.S. This was the first time in Major League history that two Wild Card teams faced each other in the League Championship Series (prior to 2022, only one Wild Card team per league could advance to the Division Series; as such, it was not possible for two Wild Card teams to face each other in the LCS until 2022). 2022 Philadelphia Phillies Season
The 2022 Philadelphia Phillies season was the 140th season in the history of the franchise, and the 19th season for the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies went 87–75 during the regular season. They went on to win the National League pennant for the first time since 2009. On December 2, 2021, Commissioner of Baseball Rob Manfred announced a lockout of players, following expiration of the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between the league and the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA). On March 10, 2022, the MLB and MLBPA agreed to a new collective bargaining agreement, thus ending the lockout. Opening Day was played on April 7. Although MLB previously announced that several series would be cancelled due to the lockout, the agreement provides for a 162-game season, with originally canceled games to be made up via doubleheaders. Adam Hamari
Adam Curtis Hamari (born May 25, 1983) is an American Major League Baseball (MLB) umpire. Hamari began umpiring baseball for Little League teams at the age of 12. He began umpiring Minor League Baseball games in 2006, and was promoted to the major leagues on a part-time basis in 2013. Hamari was one of four umpires named to the full-time staff in February 2017, upon the retirements of Jim Joyce, John Hirschbeck, Tim Welke and Bob Davidson. Hamari was the plate umpire when Tim Lincecum of the San Francisco Giants threw his second career no-hitter on June 25, 2014. He was also behind the plate when Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees hit a walk-off single in his final career home game on September 25, 2014. The 2022 American League Division Series (ALDS) were the two best-of-five playoff series in Major League Baseball (MLB) to determine the participating teams of the 2022 American League Championship Series. The Division Series is the quarterfinal round of the Major League Baseball playoffs. Major League Baseball Wild Card
In Major League Baseball (MLB), the wild card teams are the three teams in each of the two leagues (American and National) that have qualified for the postseason despite failing to win their division. Those teams in each league possess the three best winning percentages in their league after the three division winners. The wild card was first instituted in MLB in 1994, with one wild card team per league advancing to the Division Series in the postseason to face a division winner. In 2012, the system was modified to add a second wild card team per league and pit each league's wild card teams against each other in a play-in game – the MLB Wild Card Game – the winner of which would then advance to the Division Series and play the team with the best record. The National League of Professional Baseball Clubs, known simply as the National League (NL), is the older of two leagues constituting Major League Baseball (MLB) in the United States and Canada, and the world's oldest extant professional team sports league.
