2022 Milan–San Remo
The 2022 Milan–San Remo was a road cycling one-day race that took place on 19 March 2022 in northwestern Italy. It was the 113th edition of the Milan–San Remo cycling classic. Originally the eighth event on the 2022 UCI World Tour calendar, it became the sixth event after the cancellation of the Tour Down Under and the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race. In a similar move to the one that won Jasper Stuyven the previous edition, Matej Mohorič attacked on the descent of the Poggio di San Remo with under to go and soloed to the win. Anthony Turgis, who had attacked in the final kilometre to try to bridge the gap to Mohorič, stayed ahead of the chasing group to finish second, with Mathieu van der Poel winning the sprint for third from the aforementioned group. 2022 UCI World Tour
The 2022 UCI World Tour was a series of races that included thirty-one road bicycle racing, road cycling events throughout the 2022 in men's road cycling, 2022 cycling season. The tour started with the 2022 UAE Tour, UAE Tour on 20 February, and concluded with the 2022 Il Lombardia, Il Lombardia on 8 October. Events The 2022 calendar was announced in the autumn of 2021. Cancelled events Due to COVID-19 pandemic, COVID-19-related logistical concerns raised by teams regarding travel to Australia (including strict quarantine requirements), the Tour Down Under (18–23 January) and the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race (30 January) were cancelled. On 8 June 2022, the Benelux Tour (29 August – 4 September) was cancelled due to a pressurised calendar. Poggio Di San Remo
The Poggio di San Remo is a hill in the Italian region Liguria, near San Remo. Milan-Sanremo It is mainly known from road cycling, as it is the final climb in the classic Milan–San Remo. The climb is 4 kilometers long with an average gradient of 3.7%. It is often the site of decisive attacks to the win. From the top of the Poggio, 7 km from the finish, the course heads down via a fast and curvy descent towards the center of San Remo where the race traditionally finishes on the Via Roma, the city's illustrious shopping street. In recent years there has rarely been a big selection in the latter stages of the race. Many sprinters are able to keep up with the main peloton on the climbs, and therefore the race most often ends in a group sprint. Nonetheless, the location of the Poggio close to the finish has often meant that riders' position on top of the Poggio is crucial in order to win the race. Arnaud Démare
Arnaud Démare (born 26 August 1991) is a professional road racing cyclist who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . In 2011 he won the UCI World Under-23 Road Race Championships, and in 2016 he won the Milan–San Remo. He is one of five riders to have won the French National Road Race Championships three times, having won the race in 2014, 2017 and 2020. Career 2012 season In August 2012, Démare won the first World Tour race of his career by prevailing in the Vattenfall Cyclassics, ahead of local favorite André Greipel and Giacomo Nizzolo. Wout van Aert (born 15 September 1994) is a Belgian professional road and cyclo-cross racer who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . He won the men's elite race at the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in 2016, 2017 and 2018. He joined in March 2019, on a three-year deal after terminating his contract with in 2018. Søren Kragh Andersen (born 10 August 1994) is a Danish cyclist who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . He is the younger brother of Asbjørn Kragh Andersen, who was also a professional cyclist, until his retirement in 2022. Career He joined in 2016 on an initial two-year contract. Mads Pedersen (born 18 December 1995) is a Danish professional racing cyclist, who rides for UCI WorldTeam . In September 2019, he won the men's road race at the 2019 UCI Road World Championships in Yorkshire, England, and became the first Danish cyclist to win the men's World Championship road race title. Michael James Matthews (born 26 September 1990) is an Australian professional road and track cyclist who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam .
