2022 MPBL Season
The 2022 MPBL season, known as the MPBL Mumbaki Season, was the fourth season of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League. This season the MPBL announced their partnership with OKBet as their official betting partner. Format * Just like in previous seasons, all teams will play in a single round-robin regardless of division. Each team will have 21 games in their schedule. * At the end of the group stage, if there are games which were postponed during the regular season, the game/s shall be played especially if there will be significant effects in the standings after these games are played. * If there are ties in the standings, these will be broken via the following criterion: 1. Head-to-head matchup, 2. Point difference against each other 3. Record vs. the other division, and if necessary, the quotient system. Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League
The Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) is a men's professional basketball league in the Philippines. History Manny Pacquiao launched the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League on August 29, 2017, starting off as a semi-professional league. According to Pacquiao, the league is not intended to be a competitor to the Philippine Basketball Association, the country's top professional basketball league. The MPBL was intended to feature both a regional commercial and barangay-level league with teams on the commercial side to have a home locality in addition to a corporate sponsor. In the first months, the league hosted teams from Luzon with future plans to expand to accommodate teams based in Visayas and Mindanao like the defunct Metropolitan Basketball Association. The Manila City Stars (also spelled as Manila CityStars) are a professional basketball team in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) and the Pilipinas Super League (PSL). The team is owned by the Local City Government of Manila, Philippines. 2021 MPBL Invitational
The 2021 MPBL Invitational, officially known as the Chooks-to-Go MPBL Invitational powered by TM for sponsorship reasons, was an invitational tournament that serves as the prelude to the 2022–23 MPBL season. It commenced on December 11, 2021 and ended on December 23, 2021. The tournament was also the first for the MPBL since it was granted professional status by the Games and Amusements Board. The Invitational was also the first professional sports event in the Philippines to allow live audiences since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, with the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, the venue for the tournament, only allowed to be at 50 percent capacity. Marikina Shoemasters
Marikina Shoemasters are a Filipino professional basketball team in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) based in Marikina. It is one of 11 active teams based in Metro Manila, as well as one of four based in the Eastern Manila District. The team plays their home games at Marikina Sports Center. The team began play during the 2018–19 season. The name references Marikina's moniker as the "Shoe Capital of the Philippines". The team has also participated in the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3. Lester Andrew F. Alvarez (born September 18, 1988) is a Filipino basketball player and head coach for the Valenzuela XUR Homes Realty Inc. of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL). Alvarez played college basketball for the Adamson University Soaring Falcons. College career In UAAP Season 73 to 74, Alvarez is one of the key pieces to the Falcons squad alongside Alex Nuyles, as they led the Falcons back to relevance in the UAAP. In his final season, Alvarez led the Falcons to snap a 13-year losing streak against the Ateneo Blue Eagles to deny them of a step-ladder Final Four. Christian P. Coronel (born March 3, 1980) is a Filipino former professional basketball player. He last played for the Barako Energy Coffee Masters in the Philippine Basketball Association.
