2022 Kashima Antlers Season
The 2022 season was Kashima Antlers' 30th consecutive season in the J1 League, the top flight of Japanese football since the introduction of professional football in 1993. The club finished the 2022 J1 League in fourth place, exactly the same position as the previous season. They also competed in the Emperor's Cup where they reached the semi-finals and the J.League Cup where they were knocked out at the play-off stage. Kashima started the league season strongly winning six of their first seven games and were in first position for a number of weeks before the end of May. Forward Ayase Ueda was in fine form and won the first J.League Monthly MVP award of the season. From May onwards, the performances started to detioriate and wins became hard to come by. René Weiler
René Weiler (born 13 September 1973) is a Swiss football coach and former player. Playing career Weiler started his career 1990 with FC Winterthur, the club of his hometown, playing in the Challenge League. In 1992, he moved to FC Aarau who at the time were in the Swiss Super League. After only one season he changed sides with Servette FC, playing two seasons in Geneva and 41 games. From the 1996 season onwards, he played for FC Zürich for two seasons. He ended his career with his youth club FC Winterthur from 1998 to 2001. He retired in 2001. International career Weiler played one game for the Swiss national team, a 2–1 defeat against Russia on 10 February 1997. Yuma Suzuki
is a Japanese professional footballer who plays as a striker for club Kashima Antlers. Club career Kashima Antlers Suzuki joined the Kashima Antlers youth system at the age of 7 in 2003. After scoring two goals and leading Kashima Antlers to their first ever AFC Champions League title in 2018, Suzuki was named MVP of the competition. Itsuki Oda
is a Japanese professional footballer who plays as a full back for club Avispa Fukuoka. Career Itsuki Oda joined J1 League club Kashima Antlers in 2017. On July 12, he debuted in Emperor's Cup (v Montedio Yamagata). Oda was twice loaned out to J2 league clubs, firstly Machida Zelvia in the 2020 season and secondly to JEF United Chiba in the 2021 season. Ikuma Sekigawa
is a Japanese professional footballer who plays as a centre back for club Kashima Antlers. Youth career Born in Tokyo, Sekigawa started playing football when he was three years old. He joined his first club, FC Tama Junior Youth, whilst he was in elementary school. He attended high school at Kashiwa High School attached to Ryutsu Keizai University where he played from his first year. In 2016, aged 16, Sekigawa's high school were runners-up in the Inter High School Championship following a 1–0 defeat to Funabashi Municipal High School. Koki Anzai
is a Japanese footballer who plays as a full-back for club Kashima Antlers and has represented the Japan national team. Born in Hyōgo, Anzai came through the ranks at Tokyo Verdy and played 150 games for them before moving to J1 League club Kashima Antlers in 2018. After 18 months at Kashima, he moved to Portuguese side Portimonense and in 2019 made his debut for the national team.
