2022 Indy Lights
The 2022 Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires was the 36th and final season of the Indy Lights open wheel motor racing series and the 20th sanctioned by IndyCar, acting as the primary support series for the IndyCar Series. It was held over 14 races, consisting of two ovals and nine road and street courses. Linus Lundqvist, driving for HMD Motorsports with Dale Coyne Racing, won the drivers' championship at the penultimate race of the season. Andretti Autosport won the teams' championship, while their driver Hunter McElrea became rookie of the year. 2022 also the final season of Indy Lights utilizing Indy Lights moniker. From 2023 onwards the Indy Lights would be rebranded to Indy NXT. Indy Lights
Indy NXT, previously Indy Lights, is an American developmental automobile racing series sanctioned by IndyCar, currently known as Firestone Indy NXT Series for sponsorship reasons. Indy Lights is the highest step on the Road to Indy, a program of racing series leading up to the IndyCar Series. The Indy Lights series has been promoted by Anderson Promotions since 2014, which also manages the Road to Indy program. A similar series named Indy Lights filled the developmental role for the CART series, and ran from 1986 to 1993 as the American Racing Series and Dayton Indy Lights from 1991 to 2001. The current IndyCar sanctioned series was founded in 2002 as the Infiniti Pro Series as a way to introduce new talent to IndyCar, with the moniker Indy Lights returning in 2008 when CART and IndyCar unified. Danial Nielsen Frost (born 18 October 2001 in Singapore) is a Singaporean auto racing, race car driver. He currently competes in Indy NXT driving for HMD Motorsports with Dale Coyne Racing. Kyffin Simpson (born 9 October 2004 in Bridgetown, Barbados) is a Cayman-based American- Barbadian racing driver. Biography Barbados-born but a resident of the British overseas territory of the Cayman Islands, Simpson made his car racing debut in 2020 for Velocity Racing Development in the US Formula 4 Championship after 9 years of karting across the Caribbean. Nolan Siegel (born November 8, 2004) is an American racing driver. He currently competes in the Indy NXT with HMD Motorsports w/ Dale Coyne Racing. Siegel previously competed in the U.S. F2000 National Championship with DEForce Racing. Christian Bogle (born March 6, 2001) is an American race car driver from Covington, Louisiana. He is scheduled to compete for HMD Motorsports in Indy NXT. Early career Lower formulae Having foregone a career in karting, Bogle made his racing debut in 2018, competing in the F4 United States Championship for Jay Howard's team in the latter half of the campaign. Benjamin Pedersen (born 11 May 1999) is a Danish-American race car driver from Copenhagen, with residence in Seattle, Washington. He currently competes in IndyCar driving for A.J. Foyt Enterprises.
