2022 Houston Gamblers Season
The 2022 Houston Gamblers season was the first season for the Houston Gamblers as a professional American football franchise. They played as charter members of the United States Football League, one of eight teams to compete in the league for the 2022 season. The Gamblers technically played as a traveling team (since the entirety of the regular season was played at Protective Stadium and Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama) and were led by head coach Kevin Sumlin. Background and history As is the case with all eight teams competing in the league, the Houston Gamblers take their name and color scheme from a franchise of the same name that competed in the original USFL. Kevin Sumlin
Kevin Warren Sumlin (born August 3, 1964) is an American football coach who is the head coach and general manager for the Houston Gamblers of the United States Football League (USFL). Sumlin served as the head football coach at the University of Houston from 2008 to 2011, Texas A&M University from 2012 to 2017, and at the University of Arizona from 2018 to 2020. Early life Sumlin was born in Brewton, Alabama, on August 3, 1964. He later attended Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School in Indianapolis, where he played football, basketball, and ice hockey. Following his prep career, Sumlin attended Purdue University and was a starting linebacker throughout his entire college career. Jack Pardee
John Perry Pardee (April 19, 1936 – April 1, 2013) was an American football linebacker and the only head coach to helm a team in college football, the National Football League (NFL), the United States Football League (USFL), the World Football League (WFL), and the Canadian Football League (CFL). Pardee was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a player in 1986. Playing career As a teenager, Pardee moved to Christoval, Texas, where he excelled as a member of the six-man football team. He was an All-America Fullback at Texas A&M University and a two-time All-Pro with the Los Angeles Rams (1963) and the Washington Redskins (1971). The East Central Tigers (also ECU Tigers) are the athletic teams that represent East Central University, located in Ada, Oklahoma, in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports. David Beaty (American Football)
David Beaty (born October 26, 1970) is an American football coach who is the wide receivers coach at Florida Atlantic University. He served as the head football coach at the University of Kansas from 2015 to 2018. Career Early years Beaty was Kansas' wide receivers coach from 2008 to 2009 and co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach in 2011. Ahmad Gooden (born October 27, 1995) is an American football defensive end for the Houston Gamblers of the United States Football League (USFL). He played college football at Samford. College career Gooden was a member of the Samford Bulldogs for four seasons. As a junior, Gooden made 101 tackles (15.5 for loss) with 5.5 sacks and was named first-team All-Southern Conference (SoCon) and the conference Defensive Player of the Year. Gooden was named first-team All-SoCon as a senior after recording 49 tackles, 15 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. Clayton James Thorson (born June 15, 1995) is an American football quarterback for the Houston Gamblers of the United States Football League (USFL). He was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He played college football at Northwestern. 2022 USFL Draft
The 2022 USFL Draft, also known as the 2022 USFL Player Selection Meeting, was the player selection process to fill the rosters of the eight teams for the 2022 USFL season. The draft was held on February 22–23, 2022, with results released through the USFL's social media channels. Structure The USFL player allocation process will be held in multiple phases, separated by position groups. The league will use a "snake" format in each phase, in which the draft order reversed with each round. The draft order will be shuffled for each phase as predetermined through lotteries.
