Georgia State Senate
The Georgia State Senate is the upper house of the Georgia General Assembly, in the U.S. state of Georgia. Legal provisions The Georgia State Senate is the upper house of the Georgia General Assembly, with the lower house being the Georgia House of Representatives. Both bodies are constitutionally required to convene annually at the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta. The General Assembly begins each yearly session on the second Monday in January. From that date of convention, sessions last for 40 legislative days. The General Assembly may call for special sessions by a three-fifths vote of the members in each chamber. Special sessions in Georgia may span a maximum of 40 days. 2022 Georgia Lieutenant Governor Election
The 2022 Georgia lieutenant gubernatorial election was held on November 8, 2022, to elect the lieutenant governor of the U.S. state of Georgia. It coincided with various other statewide elections, including for U.S. Senate, U.S. House, and Governor of Georgia. Georgia is one of 21 states that elects its lieutenant governor separately from its governor. Incumbent Republican Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan, who was first elected in 2018 with 51.6% of the vote, declined to run for a second term after he openly contradicted claims of election fraud in the 2020 presidential election. A vocal critic of Donald Trump, he had been speculated as a potential presidential candidate in the 2024 election. Nabilah Islam
Nabilah Islam Parkes (' Islam; born November 27, 1989) is an American activist and politician from the state of Georgia who is the Georgia State Senator for the 7th district as a result of the 2022 Georgia State Senate election. She became the first Muslim woman in the Georgia State Senate and the second overall in the Georgia State Legislature, along with Sheikh Rahman and Farooq Mughal. She previously ran to represent Georgia's 7th congressional district in 2020. Due to her progressive stances, she has been described as "Georgia's AOC" and "Atlanta's AOC." Jason F. Esteves is an American attorney and politician serving as a member of the Georgia State Senate for the 6th district. Elected in November 2022, he assumed office on January 9, 2023. Sheikh Rahman
Sheikh Rahman (born November 15, 1960) is a Bangladeshi-American politician who has served in the Georgia State Senate from the 5th district since January 14, 2019. He is the first Muslim lawmaker in Georgia. Personal life Sheikh Rahman was born in Bangladesh. He moved to Lawrenceville, Georgia and attended Central Piedmont Community College in 1981. Mike Hodges is an American politician who is currently serving as the Georgia State Senator for the 3rd district. Education Born in Glynn County, Hodges attended Brunswick High School and graduated in 1971. He then attended Brunswick Junior College and earned a BBA in banking and finance at the University of Georgia. Career Hodges was a founding director of the First Bank of Brunswick, and later its CEO. The bank was purchased by Ameris Bancorp in 2001.
