2022 European Darts Open
The 2022 Interwetten European Darts Open was the fifth of thirteen PDC European Tour events on the 2022 PDC Pro Tour. The tournament took place at the Ostermann-Arena, Leverkusen, Germany, from 6–8 May 2022. It featured a field of 48 players and £140,000 in prize money, with £25,000 going to the winner. Michael van Gerwen entered the event as defending champion, having defeated Rob Cross 8–6 in the 2019 final. He successfully defended his title with an 8–5 win over Dimitri Van den Bergh in the final. Ostermann-Arena (formerly Wilhelm Dopatka Halle and Smidt-Arena) is an indoor arena, indoor sporting arena located in Leverkusen, Germany. The capacity of the arena is 3,500 people. Rob Cross (darts Player)
Robert Cross (born 21 September 1990) is an English professional darts player who plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He became the 2018 PDC World Darts Champion following his victory over Phil Taylor. Cross won the World Championship on his debut, having turned professional just 11 months prior to the event. BDO career 2015 In October 2015, Cross attempted to qualify for the 2016 BDO World Darts Championship, where he was knocked out in the last 64 by Tony Martin. He also competed in the 2015 World Masters, losing to Darius Labanauskas in the last 48. James Wade
James Martin Wade (born 6 April 1983) is an English professional darts player, currently playing in the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). He became the youngest player to win a major PDC title, when he won the 2007 World Matchplay at the age of 24. This record has since been broken by Michael van Gerwen. Wade has won eleven PDC majors, third in the all-time list behind Phil Taylor and Michael van Gerwen. He is widely considered one of the best left handed darts players of all time. Wade has also won the World Grand Prix in 2007 and 2010, the UK Open in 2008, 2011 and 2021, the Premier League in 2009, the Championship League in 2010, the Masters in 2014, the European Championship and the World Series of Darts Finals in 2018. Karel Sedláček (born 17 February 1979) is a Czech darts player. Career Sedláček qualified for the 2014 BDO World Darts Championship playing Paul Hogan in the preliminary round, losing 1–3. He qualified for the 2014 BDO World Trophy, won in the first round 6–1 over Robbie Green, then lost in the last 16 to Paul Jennings 2–7. Daniel "Danny" Baggish (born 19 August 1983) is a Guamanian–born American professional darts player. He had a PDC tour card from 2021 to 2022, after being the only American player to win one at Q-School in 2021. He is a sponsored by Target Darts, and has been a member of Team Target since 2019. Career He first came to prominence in 2019, when he was one of 8 North American qualifiers who played in the 2019 US Darts Masters, where he lost 6–1 to Daryl Gurney in the first round. PDC Order Of Merit
The PDC Order of Merit is a world ranking system used by one of the darts organisations, the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). Following the 2007 PDC World Darts Championship it superseded a world ranking system based on points being awarded for performances in ranking tournaments. How it works The Order of Merit is similar to that employed in golf's European Tour. Prize money won during the previous two seasons is calculated and the rankings are determined from this money list. Dimitri Van den Bergh (born 8 July 1994) is a Belgian professional darts player who currently competes in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. He is a two-time World Youth Champion and the 2020 World Matchplay champion, after beating Gary Anderson 18–10 in the final, in his first time competing in the Matchplay. Career BDO In 2013, Van den Bergh won the British Teenage Open by beating Billy Longshaw 3–0 in the final. The 2019 European Darts Open was the first of thirteen PDC European Tour events on the 2019 PDC Pro Tour. The tournament took place at Ostermann-Arena, Leverkusen, Germany, from 22–24 March 2019. It featured a field of 48 players and £140,000 in prize money, with £25,000 going to the winner. Michael van Gerwen was the defending champion after defeating Peter Wright 8–7 in the final of the 2018 tournament, and he defended his title by defeating Rob Cross 8–6 in the final. In his semi-final win over Mensur Suljović, Van Gerwen became the first player to hit two nine-darters on the European Tour, taking out 147 via T19-Bull-D20, which was also the first time a filmed nine-dart finish included a bullseye, but not as the final dart (as all the previous three were double in/double out nine-darters in the World Grand Prix). Michael Van Gerwen
Michael van Gerwen (; born 25 April 1989) is a Dutch professional darts player. He is currently ranked number 3 in the world, having been number 1 from 2014 to 2021. He is also a three-time PDC World Champion, having won the title in 2014, 2017 and 2019. Van Gerwen is regarded as one of the best players of all time.
