2022 EFL League One Play-off Final
The 2022 EFL League One play-off Final was an association football match between Sunderland and Wycombe Wanderers on 21 May 2022 at Wembley Stadium, London. It was to determine the third and final team to gain promotion from EFL League One, the third tier of English football, to the EFL Championship. The top two teams of 2021–22 EFL League One, Wigan Athletic and Rotherham United, gained automatic promotion to the Championship, while the clubs placed from third to sixth place in the table took part in the 2022 English Football League play-offs. The winners of the play-off semi-finals competed for the final place for the 2022–23 season in the Championship. 2022 English Football League Play-offs
The English Football League play-offs for the 2021–22 season (referred to as the Sky Bet Play-Offs for sponsorship reasons) is being held in May 2022 with all finals being staged at Wembley Stadium in Wembley. The play-offs begin in each league with two semi-finals which are played over two legs. The teams who finished in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th place in the Championship and League One and the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th-placed teams in League Two compete. The winners of the semi-finals advance to the finals, with the winners gaining promotion for the following season. All three play-off finals will use Video Assistant Referees (VAR), making it the first time that they have been used in each of the respective leagues. Hillsborough Stadium is a 39,732-capacity association football stadium located in Owlerton, a north-western suburb of Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. It has been the home of Sheffield Wednesday since its opening in 1899. Samuel Edward Hutchinson (born 3 August 1989) is an English professional footballer who primarily plays as a centre-back or defensive midfielder for club Reading. Ross Cameron Stewart (born 11 July 1996) is a Scottish footballer who plays as a striker for EFL Championship club Southampton and the Scotland national football team.
