2022 Czech Senate Election
Senate elections were held in the Czech Republic on 23 and 24 September 2022 alongside municipal elections. The election were won by the Spolu alliance consisting of the Civic Democratic Party (ODS), KDU-ČSL and TOP 09 which won 20 seats (including Tábor 2020 candidate Marek Slabý and ProMOST candidate Jan Paparega). The ODS was the most successful party, winning eight seats. Compared to 2016 election, the number of candidates decreased by 55. The three youngest candidates seeking the senatorial seat are all 40 years old, the oldest candidate is 79 years old. Senate Of The Czech Republic
The Senate (), literally "Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic", is the upper house of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. The seat of the Senate is Wallenstein Palace in Prague. Structure The Senate has 81 members, chosen in single-seat constituencies through the two-round system. If no candidate receives a majority of votes in the first round, there is a second round between the two highest-placed candidates. The term of office for Senators is six years, and elections are staggered so that a third of the seats are up for election every two years. A candidate for the Senate does not need to be on a political party's ticket (unlike in the Chamber of Deputies). The Senate has one President and four Vice-presidents. Mayors And Independents
The Mayors and Independents ( cs, Starostové a nezávislí), abbreviated to STAN, is a liberal political party in the Czech Republic that is focused on localism and subsidiarity. The party grew out of four minor parties, including Independent Mayors for the Region, which allied itself with the liberal-conservative SNK European Democrats, and cooperated with the similarly liberal-conservative TOP 09 until 2016. It holds 33 seats in the Chamber of Deputies, and is the third strongest party by number of seats following the 2021 election.
