2022 Colonial Athletic Association Football Season
The 2022 Colonial Athletic Association football season was the 16th season of the Colonial Athletic Association football taking place during the 2022 NCAA Division I FCS football season. The season began on September 1, 2022, with non-conference play and with conference play beginning on September 24, 2022. This was the final year that the conference was known as the Colonial Athletic Association. In July 2023, it rebranded to become the Coastal Athletic Association. Background Monmouth and Hampton joined the CAA from the Big South Conference. James Madison left the CAA and transitioned to the FBS into the Sun Belt Conference. NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision
The NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), formerly known as Division I-AA, is the second-highest level of college football in the United States, after the Football Bowl Subdivision. Sponsored by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the FCS level comprises 130 teams in 15 conferences as of the 2022 season. The FCS designation is only tied to football with the non-football sports programs of each school generally competing in NCAA Division I. Greg Gattuso
Gregory Gattuso (born May 18, 1962) is an American football coach and former player. He is currently the head coach at the University at Albany, taking over from long-time head coach Bob Ford (American football), Bob Ford. He was formerly the defensive line coach at the University of Maryland, under head coach Randy Edsall, a position he assumed in January 2011. Chuck Priore
Chuck Priore (born February 17, 1960) is an American football coach and former player. He is the current head football coach at Stony Brook University, a position he has held since the 2006 season. Priore served the head football coach at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut from 2000 to 2005. He was also the head men's lacrosse coach at the University at Albany in 1986 and at Union College in Schenectady, New York from 1988 to 1991. Priore's coaching style is known for his run-heavy offense and aggressive defense. Playing career Priore played football at the University at Albany before graduating in 1982. Russ Huesman
Russell Frederick Huesman (born January 28, 1960) is an American football coach and former player. He was named head football coach at the University of Richmond on December 14, 2016 after spending eight years as head coach of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. The Spiders compete in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision as members of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). Kasim Ajani Hill (born December 9, 1997) is an American former college football quarterback. He played for Maryland, Tennessee, and Rhode Island. In Hill's first season with the Rams in 2020, despite the season being moved and shortened due to COVID-19 he helped lead the team to two back-to-back upset wins against ranked opponents. In the next season he led the team to a 7–4 record and had his best season as a starter to that point in his career. Jim Fleming (born September 23, 1959) is an American college football coach and former player. He is currently the head coach at the University of Rhode Island (URI), a position he assumed in December 2013. Ricky Santos (born April 26, 1984) is an American former gridiron football quarterback who is currently the head coach for the New Hampshire Wildcats football team. He played college football at New Hampshire, and was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2008. Early years Santos attended Bellingham High School in Bellingham, Massachusetts, and was a letterman in football, basketball, baseball, and track and field. Tony Muskett (born 2002) is an American football quarterback for Virginia. He previously played college football for Monmouth. High school Muskett grew up in Springfield, Virginia and attended and played high school football for West Springfield High School in Fairfax County, Virginia. Joseph Fagnano is an American football quarterback for the UConn Huskies. He previously played for the Maine Black Bears. Robert Prunty is an American football coach. He is the head football coach at Hampton University, a position he has held since the 2018 season. Career Prunty was the head football coach for Gretna High School in Gretna, Virginia for several years. During his tenure, he led the program from suffering 44 consecutive losses from 1991 to 1995, to an 11–1 season in 2001.
