2022 Australian Open – Men's Doubles
Thanasi Kokkinakis and Nick Kyrgios defeated Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell in the final, 7–5, 6–4 to win the men's doubles tennis title in an all-Australian final at the 2022 Australian Open. They became the first all-Australian pair to win the title since Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde in 1997, and the first wildcard champions in the Open Era. It marked the first all-Australian final since 1980. Throughout their run, Kokkinakis and Kyrgios (dubbed "the Special K's") generated more fan fervor than usual for a doubles team. ''The New York Times'' wrote that their "mix of skill and showmanship ... has turned their matches into raucous celebrations". Athanasios "Thanasi" Kokkinakis ( ; born 10 April 1996) is an Australian professional tennis player and a doubles specialist. He has been ranked as high as world No. 69 in singles by the ATP, which he first achieved on 8 June 2015. He has won one ATP Tour title in singles and produced his best Major singles performance at the 2015 French Open by reaching the third round. Kokkinakis also has a career-high doubles ranking of world No. 15 which he attained on 21 November 2022 after winning the 2022 Australian Open and reaching the semifinals of 2022 Miami Open with countryman Nick Kyrgios. Simone Bolelli (; born 8 October 1985) is an Italian professional tennis player. Bolelli is a Grand Slam champion, having won the 2015 Australian Open doubles event with Fabio Fognini, together becoming the first all-Italian men's pair to win a Grand Slam title in the Open Era. Nicolas Pierre Armand Mahut (; born 21 January 1982) is a French professional tennis player who is a former world No. 1 in doubles. Michael Venus (born 16 October 1987), is a New Zealander professional tennis player. He has a career-high doubles ranking of world No. 6, achieved on 29 August 2022. Venus won the 2017 French Open men's doubles partnering Ryan Harrison, and followed with a runner-up finish in the 2017 US Open mixed doubles partnering Chan Hao-ching. Tim Pütz (; born 19 November 1987) is a German professional tennis player who specialises in doubles. He reached his career-high doubles ranking of world No. 7 on 29 August 2022, and has won seven doubles titles on the ATP Tour, most notably the 2021 Paris Masters alongside Michael Venus.
