2022 Air Force Falcons Football Team
The 2022 Air Force Falcons football team represented the United States Air Force Academy in the 2022 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The season was the team's 68th overall, 24th as a member of the Mountain West Conference, and 9th in the Mountain West's Mountain Division. The team played their home games at Falcon Stadium and were led by 16th-year head coach Troy Calhoun. Previous season The Falcons finished the 2021 season with a record of 10–3 and of 6–2 in the Mountain West. They were invited to participate in the Servpro First Responder Bowl, in which they defeated the Louisville Cardinals 31–28. Preseason Departures These players graduated at the conclusion of the 2021–22 academic year and as such left the team following the previous season. Mountain West Conference
The Mountain West Conference (MW) is one of the collegiate athletic conferences affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) (formerly I-A). The MW officially began operations on January 4, 1999. Geographically, the MW covers a broad expanse of the Western United States, with member schools located in California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. Craig Thompson has served as Commissioner of the MW since October 15, 1998; Gloria Nevarez will take over the post on January 1, 2023 after Thompson's retirement. Slotback, sometimes referred to as an A-back or slot receiver, is a position in gridiron football. The "slot" is the area between the last offensive lineman on either side of the center and the wide receiver on that side. A player who lines up between those two players and behind the line of scrimmage fills that "slot." Linebacker (LB) is a playing position in gridiron football. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and line up three to five yards behind the line of scrimmage and the defensive linemen.
