2021–22 Úrvalsdeild Karla (basketball)
The 2021–22 Úrvalsdeild karla was the 71st season of the Úrvalsdeild karla, the top tier men's basketball league in Iceland. The season started on 7 October 2021 and ended on 18 May 2022. Valur won its third title, and its first in 39 years, by defeating Tindastóll 3–2 in the Finals. Competition format The participating teams first played a conventional round-robin schedule with every team playing each opponent once home and once away for a total of 22 games. The top eight teams qualified for the championship playoffs whilst the two last qualified were relegated to Division 1. ''Morgunblaðið'' (, ''The Morning Paper'') is an Icelandic newspaper. ''Morgunblaðið''s website, mbl.is, is the most popular website in Iceland. Njarðvík
Njarðvík () is a town in southwestern Iceland, on the peninsula of Reykjanes. As of 2009, its population was 4,400. Helgi Már Magnússon
Helgi Már Magnússon (born August 27, 1982) is an Icelandic basketball coach and former player who is currently the head coach of KR in the Icelandic Úrvalsdeild karla. As a player, he has won seven national championships in Iceland during his career. Club career In February 2016, Helgi won his first Icelandic Basketball Cup after having lost in his previous four cup finals. Helgi announced is retirement from top level play following the 2015-2016 Úrvalsdeild season. but returned to the team in March 2018. The Keflavík men's basketball team, commonly known as Keflavík, is the men's professional basketball department of Keflavík ÍF (Keflavík, íþrótta- og ungmennafélag), based in the town of Reykjanesbær in Iceland. Friðrik Ingi Rúnarsson
Friðrik Ingi Rúnarsson is an Icelandic former basketball coach and former basketball player. As a coach, he has won three Icelandic men's championships and has guided his team to the Icelandic national finals a record seven times. Friðrik was the general manager of the Icelandic Basketball Association from 2006 to 2014 and coached the Icelandic men's national basketball team from 1999 to 2003. The Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur men's basketball team, commonly known as ÍR, is the men's basketball department of Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur. It is based in Reykjavík, Iceland and was one of the pioneers of basketball in Iceland and one of the founding members of the men's Úrvalsdeild. Sverrir Þór Sverrisson
Sverrir Þór Sverrisson (born 23 May 1975) is an Icelandic basketball coach and former player for the Icelandic national basketball team. He previously coached Keflavík women's team where he won the national championship in 2017. As a coach he has won the Icelandic women's championship three times and the men's national championship once. Coaching career Sverrir retired from top level play in 2010 and took over as head coach of Njarðvík women's team. He led them to the national championship in 2012.
