2021–22 SMU Mustangs Men's Basketball Team
The 2021–22 SMU Mustangs men's basketball team represented Southern Methodist University during the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Mustangs were led by sixth-year head coach Tim Jankovich and played their home games at Moody Coliseum on their campus in University Park, Texas as members of the American Athletic Conference. They finished the season 24–9, 13–4 in AAC play to finish in second place. They defeated Tulsa in the quarterfinals of the AAC tournament before losing to Memphis in the semifinals. They received an at-large bid to the National Invitation Tournament as a No. 1 seed. They defeated Nichols in the first round before losing to Washington State in the second round. On March 22, 2022, head coach Tim Jankovich announced his retirement from coaching. On March 27, the school named Georgia State head coach Rob Lanier the team's new head coach. Tim Jankovich
Timothy Robert Jankovich (born June 4, 1959) is a former American college basketball coach and former head coach at Southern Methodist University. During his first year (2007–08) at Illinois State, Jankovich led the Redbirds to a 13–5 second-place finish in the Missouri Valley Conference – even though pre-season polls voted the team to be a fifth-place finisher. He was an assistant basketball coach at Kansas for four years, and served under current Kansas head coach Bill Self at Kansas and Illinois. He has also served as an assistant coach at Kansas State, Colorado State, Oklahoma State, Texas and Vanderbilt. He played college basketball at Washington State and Kansas State. While at Colorado State, his teams posted three consecutive winning seasons en route to the best period of college basketball in school history. UTSA Roadrunners Men's Basketball
The UTSA Roadrunners men's basketball team represents the University of Texas at San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas, US. Originally competing as an NCAA independent in 1981–82, the Roadrunners moved to the Trans-America Athletic Conference in 1986–87, then moved to the Southland Conference in 1991–92, then moved to the Western Athletic Conference in 2012–2013, then moved to Conference USA in 2013–2014 where they are currently a member. DeSoto, Texas
DeSoto is a city in Dallas County, Texas, in the United States. DeSoto is a suburb of Dallas and is part of the Best Southwest area, which includes DeSoto, Cedar Hill, Duncanville, and Lancaster. History The area was first settled in 1847, making it one of the oldest communities in North Texas. A post office was established in 1881, and the settlement was named DeSoto in honor of Thomas Hernando DeSoto Stewart, a doctor dedicated to the community. By 1885, DeSoto was home to approximately 120 people, a cotton gin, and a general store. Soon after, the population declined to below 50. Feron Hunt (born July 5, 1999) is an American professional basketball player for the Cleveland Charge of the NBA G League. He played college basketball for the SMU Mustangs. High school career Hunt moved from New Orleans to Texas as a sophomore in high school. He played basketball for DeSoto High School in DeSoto, Texas, averaging 11.2 points and 7.1 rebounds per game as a senior. The Iona Gaels men's basketball team represents Iona University in New Rochelle, New York in NCAA Division I competition. Muskogee, Oklahoma
Muskogee () is the thirteenth-largest city in Oklahoma and the county seat of Muskogee County. Home to Bacone College, it lies approximately southeast of Tulsa. Tyson Jolly
Tyson Malik Jolly (born August 10, 1997) is an American professional basketball player who is currently a free agent. He played college basketball for the Iona Gaels of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). He previously played for the Baylor Bears, the Trinity Valley CC Cardinals, and the SMU Mustangs. High school career Jolly attended Putnam City West High School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The 2020–21 Boise State Broncos men's basketball team represented Boise State University during the 2020–21 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. 2021 National Invitation Tournament
The 2021 National Invitation Tournament was a single-elimination tournament of 16 NCAA Division I men's college basketball teams that had not been selected to participate in the 2021 NCAA tournament. The Tournament began on March 17 and ended on March 28. All rounds were played at the Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas or the UNT Coliseum in Denton, Texas. First-round games began on Wednesday, March 17, and was played through Saturday, March 20. Quarterfinals also took place Thursday, March 25.
