2021–22 Regionalliga
The 2021–22 Regionalliga is the 14th season of the Regionalliga, the tenth under the new format, as the fourth tier of the German football league system. Format According to the promotion rules decided upon in 2019, the Regionalliga Südwest and West receive a direct promotion spot. Based on a rotation principle, the Regionalliga Bayern receives the third direct promotion spot this season, while the Regionalliga Nord and Nordost champions will play a promotion play-off. Regionalliga Nord 21 teams from the states of Bremen, Hamburg, Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein will compete in the tenth season of the reformed Regionalliga Nord. VfB Lübeck was relegated from the 2020–21 3. Liga. Originally, SV Meppen was also relegated from the 3. Liga, but was spared after KFC Uerdingen did not receive a license. Regionalliga
The Regionalliga () is the fourth tier in the German football league system. Until 1974, it was the second tier in Germany. In 1994, it was introduced as the third tier. Upon the creation of the new nationwide 3. Liga in 2008, it became the fourth tier. While all of the clubs in the top three divisions of German football are professional, the Regionalliga has a mixture of professional and semi-professional clubs. Hamburger SV II are the reserve team of German association football club Hamburger SV. Until 2005 the team played as Hamburger SV Amateure. The team has qualified for the first round of the DFB-Pokal, the German Cup, on five occasions. SV Drochtersen/Assel is a German association football club from the municipality of Drochtersen, Lower Saxony. The club's greatest success has been promotion to the tier four Regionalliga Nord in 2015 after winning the Niedersachsenliga. History The club was formed in 1977 in a merger of the football departments of two local clubs, VTV Assel and TVG Drochtersen. Lüneburger SK Hansa is a football club from the Lower Saxon Hanseatic town of Lüneburg in Northern Germany. The club was founded in spring 2008 as part of the planned merger of the football divisions of the two sports clubs Lüneburger SK and Lüneburger SV.
