The 2021–22 Nemzeti Bajnokság II (also known as 2021–22 Merkantil Bank Liga) is Hungary's 71st season of the Nemzeti Bajnokság II, the second tier of the Hungarian football league system. The season began in July 2021. Teams The following teams have changed division since the 2020–21 season. Nemzeti Bajnokság II
NB II, currently known as the Merkantil Bank Liga for sponsorship reasons, is the second tier of Hungarian football. At the end of the 2004–05 season, the tournament format was changed from one division of 14 teams to two divisions: ''Keleti'' (Eastern) and ''Nyugati'' (Western), each with 16 teams. In 2013 the format was changed and there is one division again with 16 teams, and then 20 teams from 2015. The champion and the runner-up will ascend to the first division while the two lowest teams in NB II are relegated to NB III. Format On 2 March 2017, the Hungarian Football Federation announced that the number of the teams in the Nemzeti Bajnokság II will not be reduced to 12. History The second league was founded in 1901, having 8 teams. The first two teams would participate in a promotion playoff with the last 2 teams from the first league. Kaposvári Rákóczi FC is a football club in Kaposvár, Hungary. Their home stadium is Stadion Kaposvár Rákoczi. The team is named after Francis II Rákóczi, a Transylvanian prince and national hero and they are also often referred to be the nickname ''Somogyiak'', referring to Somogy County, where the team plays. History 1923–2003 The team was formed on 15 August 1923 as the Rákóczi Sport Club by workers of the local ''Mezőgazdasági Ipari Részvénytársaság'' sugar factory. Though they originally played as amateurs, they played their first professional match against ''MÁV I.'' the following year. From this time forward the team would bounce back between the NB III and NB II. In 1941 the team awaited the arrival of István Avar, but his debut with the team was delayed by the second world war. BFC Siófok
Bodajk FC Siófok, generally shortened to BFC Siófok, is a Hungarian football club based in Siófok, a small town on the shores of Lake Balaton. The club was founded in 1921 as ''Siófok SE''. The word ''Bodajk'' in the club's name stems from a merger with Bodajk FC in 2005. The colours of the club are yellow and blue. BFC Siófok plays its home matches in the Révész Géza utcai Stadion which has a capacity of 10,500. In the Hungarian cup final of 1984, BFC Siófok defeated Rába Vasas ETO Gyõr, 2–1 and thus achieved its only major success. BFC Siófok has been a member of the first division, the Nemzeti Bajnokság I, from 1985 to 1994, 1996 to 2000 and from 2002 to 2004. After the 2006/07 season, the club was again promoted to the NB I. Pécsi Mecsek Football Club, commonly referred to as Pécsi MFC or simply PMFC, is a professional Hungarian football club based in Pécs, Baranya, that currently competes in the Hungarian second division. Nyíregyháza Spartacus is a football club from Nyíregyháza, Hungary. Formed in 1928, they've had brief stints in the Nemzeti Bajnokság III, they currently play in the second division. Szombathelyi Haladás (), is a Hungarian football club based in Szombathely. ''Haladás'' is the Hungarian word for ''progress''.
