2021–22 Murray State Racers Men's Basketball Team
The 2021–22 Murray State Racers men's basketball team represented Murray State University in the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Racers, led by seventh-year head coach Matt McMahon (basketball), Matt McMahon, played their home games at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky as members of the Ohio Valley Conference. They finished the season 31–3, 18–0 in OVC play to finish as regular season champions. As the No. 1 seed, they defeated 2021–22 Southeast Missouri State Redhawks men's basketball team, Southeast Missouri State and 2021–22 Morehead State Eagles men's basketball team, Morehead State to win the 2022 Ohio Valley Conference men's basketball tournament, OVC tournament. Matt McMahon (basketball)
Matthew Joseph McMahon (born April 26, 1978) is the current men's college basketball head coach for LSU Tigers men's basketball, LSU. McMahon was formerly the men’s basketball coach at Murray State. In his third year leading the program, McMahon led the Racers to a 26–6 record that included Ohio Valley Conference regular-season and tournament championships. A 6-foot-1 shooting guard, McMahon was a regular player under head coach Buzz Peterson at Appalachian State Mountaineers men's basketball, Appalachian State from 1996 to 2000. The Mountaineers posted a 65–25 record over his last three years, finishing with an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2000. During those years, McMahon averaged 6.9 points in 90 games, hitting 37.5 percent (124 of 331) of his 3-point attempts. He graduated in 2000 with a degree in marketing.
