2021–22 LIU Sharks Men's Basketball Team
The 2021–22 LIU Sharks men's basketball team represented Long Island University in the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Sharks, led by fifth-year head coach Derek Kellogg, played their home games at the Steinberg Wellness Center in Brooklyn, New York as members of the Northeast Conference (NEC). Previous season The Sharks finished the 2020–21 season 9–9, 9–9 in NEC play to finish in a three-way tie for fifth place. Due to complications caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, only the top four teams were eligible to participate in the NEC tournament. Derek Kellogg
Derek William Kellogg (born June 20, 1973) is an American college basketball coach who currently serves as an assistant coach for UMass. Kellogg previously served as head coach of the Minutemen, his alma mater, being named to the position on April 23, 2008, replacing Travis Ford, who left to take the head coaching job at Oklahoma State University. He was removed from the position on March 9, 2017. After being let go by the Minutemen, he was named head coach of the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds, which represented the school's Brooklyn campus. He was named the first head coach of the current LIU team upon its formation in July 2019 when LIU merged the Brooklyn athletic program with that of its Post campus, creating a new program that now competes as the LIU Sharks, and served in that role until he was fired and replaced by Rod Strickland on June 30, 2022. The Sobrato Center
The War Memorial at the Sobrato Center in San Francisco, California is an athletic venue on the University of San Francisco (USF) campus. It contains War Memorial Gymnasium and serves as home for the San Francisco men's and women's basketball teams as well as the women's volleyball team. It also houses athletic department offices and training facilities for the university's other athletic teams. It is currently the oldest basketball venue in the West Coast Conference. It is popularly known as "The Hilltop" because of USF's position on the summit of Lone Mountain. Prior to 1958, the USF basketball team had no permanent home. The 2021–22 San Francisco Dons men's basketball team represented the University of San Francisco during the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Dons were led by third-year head coach Todd Golden, and played their home games at the War Memorial Gymnasium at the Sobrato Center as members of the West Coast Conference. USF began the season at 10–0, which marked the program's best start to a season since they opened with 26 straight wins in 1976–77. The Dons' perfect season ended with a one-point loss to Grand Canyon on December 18; they would ultimately wrap up their non-conference slate with a 13–2 record heading into WCC play. The Dons finished conference regular season play at 10–6 and were seeded fourth in that year's WCC tournament.
